Tess A-W she wasn't half as candid on oprah as she was on the interviews at the death of her ex husband.. she gives much better interviews to the euroean press, although the oprah interview maybe her appear to be more likeable.

true but life goes on and she did marry Naess and was interviewed about his death, then the oprah interview that you mentioned, of the 3 I think the Naess death interview captured a side of her that's never seen by American audiences but all 3 were good.

Yes, I saw that one too. Arne was the man she seemed to really be in love with.. he wanted a conventional marriage she did not. Had they nixed that ridiculous trans continental marriage idea it may have survived. speaking about the divorce he was quoted as saying "you call this a marriage? yrs of then living on separate continents was too much for him.. she didn't seem to mind.. at any rate he moved on, remarried fathered 2 additional children.. she took to drinking and fell apart.. she said in the original interview that she wanted to be in love and was sad because she didn't have that.. what's sad is that she's 71, and alone.. (kids don't count)

Tess A-W I'd probably have to re-watch & compare it to others to see what you mean. At this point it's a personal view and maybe the words didn't translate. For me this was Diana not being "on". Appearing chilled, not having the sing a song speaking voice, not overly made up and doing what she was there for... to answer questions. It didn't seem like canned answers. I'm fine with her either way, but I was particularly drawn to the understatement here. That on its face is an oxymoron for Diana. There was a Caesars Palace performance that I saw years ago on cable. Its now on KZitem. That made me want to see Diana so badly in a live performance. In fact I paid for near front row seats at a relatively exorbitant cost and was sorely disappointed. She phoned it in. I'm sure that a great deal of the crowd adored it bc it was Diana but I was looking for heart and didn't feel it. I felt a wall. The person I attended with response was "that's it"? There were plenty of costume changes, canned references to her days at Motown, a lot of hair tossing and a flat voice that rushed through all but new songs that no one had heard. They were to appear on an upcoming CD. Could've been an off night. She's still a legend no matter my opinion.

she looked sooooo beautiful in this interview. i especially like her candid way of answering Barbara. it's refreshing to see a celebrity give such an honest interview rather than the majority of which, are so beyond well-polished and extra careful with their wordings that they don't seem real at all.

"I Always Wanted Everyone To Care About Me!" this was because of her Father Fred with whom she always had a complicated relationship with. She never really felt that she had his love and approval, he didn't give his blessing when she joined The Primettes, wasn't there when she signed the Motown Record Contract. However he was very smart when he said "Save Your Money, You Don't Know How Long This Will Last." He was so right on.

this might be a very stupid question but they talked about doing a lot of research on each other. now this is an age before the internet, did they research archived newspapers and press articles?i can hardly see either of them taking the time to visit libraries...... or.....

I was in college before Internet and yes....it was possible to research information about famous people before the availability of the Internet. One would go to the closest university or public library and reference an index of Who's Who which would cross index with all of the magazine and newspaper articles which referenced the person one is researching. Universities and libraries kept and still keep all old newspaper articles and magazines in stock and eventually transferred them to tape which one could then read the referenced articles through a special machine. One could and still can read newspaper and magazine articles going as far back as the early 1900's and in some cases even earlier than that! I doubt that either Barbara Walters or Diana Ross had time to go through this very time consuming process so I can just bet that they had an assistant who would go through this time consuming process to research information on a person.

I agree that Barbra Walters was always smarmy and contentious with Diana, but there's a reason for that. Diana has this really nasty stuck up selfish attitude about her. She always want things her way without considering the feelings of others. She's very self-centered and plays with people's emotions, etc. to get her way. I use to like Diana, but I don't care too much for her anymore.

I find it quite surprising with Diana Ross's statement that she feels alone after a performance and that even though she may meet with friends and fans after a performance she goes home "alone." Maybe she should throw some after show parties either at her house or at a rented venue and invite the friends and trusted fans that she spoke about. Take a genuine interest in them and the world around her. That way she would create opportunities to meet the husband that she desires. However, Diana is operating under the myth that unless a woman has a husband and possibly children that she cannot get out from under the umbrella of loneliness. She seems doubtful that she can get along without a man. It is also hard to conceive of Diana Ross going home alone and feeling lonely after having been in show business for almost twenty years and having worked closely with so many people including her singing colleagues at Motown. Where were they? Did she not make any friends at Motown? However, this interview was conducted over 38 years ago so my observations are probably quite irrelevant and passé. She probably has resolved the loneliness issue by now...but then maybe not. Just saying.

It's crazy because to be honest show business is one of the lonliest professions in the world. Always questioning people's motives, trust, it can be really depressing. You make a lot of money but you are so lonely majority of the time.
