Had Diana been at Motown during this concert, not only would it have shattered sales records as a home video, but "Let's Go Up" would been rush-released as a single and shot high on the charts (overtaking the lukewarm "Pieces of Ice"). Let's Go Up was the theme of the concert and anthemic.

@pnyc1969 I think the reason why this moment is so highlighted for her is that Central Park was ALL Diana's vision and work. It was the first major thing she pulled of without the help Berry Gordy and Motown. I think Central Park really proved to her and alot industry people and public that "Yes I Am As Good I 've Been Said TO Be.

god "Ross" was such an amazing album. Her RCA career was brilliant despite a few negatives ("Silk Electric")

(10/8/12) I much prefer this song in this tempo, rather than the slower one on the album. I tried speeding it up myself but it didn't sound right. :-S I could just rip it from the dvd and put it as "live version." lol.

@pnyc1969 I agree! And you, its' lyrics are pretty on point right now with the whole Occupy Wall Street thing. "Let's Go Up" is kind of a hidden protest song. "Can you tell me how much fire would it take to get us higher..." "Stand up and fight, do it tonight, you can't lose..." "I can't free a person from their chains...but I tell you this for sure: if nothing is ventured, then nothing is gained" "What goes down is up to us, so let's go up!"

it was also a really SOLID album so yeah, i don't get it besides everyone seemed to hate that she switched record labels and didn't want her to be in control.

@SmoothCinnamonX I dont know why that album didnt do better because the promotion for it was amazing I remember it like it was yesterday.RCA really did its part on promotion the bill boards the big posters at music plus The wherehouse I remember the price .6.99 at that time, but lets be real the album wasnt as good as the other two that she had from RCA.

@pnyc1969 It's very hard to pick out one single moment as the height of Miss Ross career. Like you said there is her Oscar nomination LSB, or her Tony award winning concert An Evening With Ross, and lets not even mention her grounbreaking career with The Supremes. What I love about Miss Ross career is that it's had peaks and valley's but she always "CarriedOn !"

@darkebony I enjoy listening to Ross and actually love "Girls" - although I digitally stretched it to 105% of its length (leaving the pitch alone) - it's too fast for me on the album - and it is much better! Clocks in at 4:10. Silk Electric was actually really cool if she had sequenced the songs better. I would love to hear the unreleased 12" remix of "Fool For Your Love" that RCA did!

Spirit Angelfish you're 4getting when the Ross album dropped Mary Wilson timed her negative book release with Diana's Ross released and Diana got negative feedback ,and it was very close to the central part concert as well , I so their was nothing Diana could do too but to try and ride that out , which of course the Ross album suffered because of the nagitve Mary Wilson book and her heavy tv. Appearances played a big part in the failure of the album Ross. Because in the beginning of it's (Ross) release it was climbing the charts until Mary kept up her nigitive appearances on TV. then the album started to fall from the charts. That's the real story. This was during the time Ross's public persona took a heavy from Mary Wilson, before that there was another book out that was beating up Diana's persona as well by another writer who latter he said he was sorry for ever doing such a book and if he could do it over he said he wouldn't have. So all that played a heavy part in the poor record sales . And it was said if Diana had been a lesser a star that is and was that campaign would have destroyed a lesser a star, and I'm asking for what real reason would anybody want to try to destroy such a brilliant entertainer why? Because all who was connected to Diana benefited in some way , one way or another. They used to say back then , there goes the lead singer, so goes the group ,because of association. If you destroy the lead singer , then so goes the group , because of association.

@whatigot2say Your argument is a complete furphy. She was not married to Arne at this point. In fact, she had not even met him - she met hm after recording Eaten Alive in 1985.

This is a good song for shows. But on the album it didn’t quite work. It didn’t have the explosive originality of I’m Coming Out or the amazing guitar riff. Sort bridges to Let’s Go Up and stays there over and over for the rest of the song. This album also flopped with no hit singles. It had a great photo of Diana though she looked stoned ( intentional) and Pieces of Ice was really only for club play. Like all the albums after the first glorious one on RCA with Why Do Fools and Mirror Mirror ( amazing guitars on that song) there were a few great singles like Missing You and Swept Away-but there was also a lot of filler. Diana was in her forties and the younger generation was connecting to other artists by this time. It’s funny a few years gone to have babies and she came back and the entire musical landscape changed to hip hop. So like Madonna is facing now, it was time to redefine. But it all turned out well, she got super rich and she now does a legacy tour and it’s just startling she still goes on in her mid seventies. And her daughter is arguably the biggest female television star so the Ross brand continues!

@whatigot2say Well if she wont do it Tracy will, she doesnt have those same hang ups as her mom.Her and Diahann Carroll has the same problems and that is the invisable wall that you get in hollywood when you are Black,as they have gotten older they realize that it exist and they are more willing to talk about it.In her day up untill the 90s there was only so far you could go being black, and she could have even been bigger but that was the world that we lived in ,she could of been like Beyonnce.

@whatigot2say You're implying that she had married Arne Naess at the time of this video. THAT is a complete furphy - she had not met him until about 2 years after this videa was shot. I certainly cannot claim that she was"exclusively dating white men" any more than I can refutiate it either. My point is, that I seriously doubt you - or indeed anyone else who posts on KZitem - can make such a claim either, Prove your claim, otherwise stay out of her personal life.
