Diana Ross performed her iconic hit, "Reach Out & Touch (Somebody's Hand) at the end of her debut show at the Wynn Theater in Las Vegas, NV., less than two weeks after the Oct 1 Tragedy at the Route 91 Harvest Festival. During the song, you will see someone holding up a towel that Ms Ross acknowledge and blew a kiss to. What the man was holding up, from what I was told, was a towel that simply said, "Las Vegas Strong" (I was informed that the #VegasStrong towel was distributed at an NHL game the night before). I also learned that the song Ms Ross WAS supposed to have sung was "The Best Years Of My Life" but thought "Reach Out & Touch" was more appropriate. At the start of the song she points out that "We need this." She couldn't have been more right.
I, personally, never heard this song sound more beautiful and meaningful as she sung it this night. Every word rang true. But this was a happy occasion, the beginning of a new residency, in a new venue (she formerly performed at the Venetian) and the crowd gave her a lot of love! Towards the end of the song, she showed how proud she was to be a grandmother and the mother of Tracee Ellis Ross as she promoted her daughter's show. Ms Ross looked radiant, relaxed, joyful and sounded beautiful. What more can one person ask for?
