Beautiful song. Love M&C crystal clear harmony. You feel the energy of the then newest Supreme Member, Cindy Birdsong while the Sensual, Calm, and Collected Sexy Presence of Mary Wilson (Fine AF) smooths and rounds out the presence of The Supremes as the era ushers a focus and objective of Diane's solo ambitions. Great song. Great performance. Great Dresses and wigs. The song is still number one to me.

@@jobucats2166 I kind of see what you are saying but ultimately for me FLO was the Soul of the group..she was the Etta James of the group...she had raw power and emotion in her voice..she was unique and when Berry fired her (unfairly), Mary was lost, and Diana was just determined to become a super star. Diana's love and passion for the group dwindled. Ultimately she and Berry had the plan to become more than Motown. Flo and Mary became irrelevant to them. So I will stick by my guns and say the best Supremes music was with Flo between 1962-1965.

That's the problem when u have to not only learn ur part, but the part of the lead singer, too. Diana Ross is no fool, she knew who to mess with & who not to mess with. Cindy was a healthy woman back then, & as skinny as Diana was back then, all Cindy had to do was push her down & sit on her, & that would have been it for Ross, but Cindy was too much a lady to "scrap", but u can push a person until the "REAL PERSON" come out & u will be sorry. @@DeeJay-zz1yi I remember her saying that and it was true.. we’d literally yell out the window to family and friends.. I watch old shows on Decades TV now, and it’s amazing how diverse that show was.. long before diversity was a thing on television, yet you never hear about his contribution…

Great live performance... however, Diana flubs a line at the end and Cindy comes in too soon shortly after that. Mary looked and sounded fantastic.

@@ernestbrown795Why is the background pre recorded? Ed Sullivan had the facilities for live performances.

@jackjules7552 only bands played live on Ed Sullivan. Mostly everyone else sings live over a pre-recorded tape. The Girls voices were prerecorded as well. Only Diana sings live.

@@ernestbrown795 Why is Diana the only one that gets to sing live?

@jackjules7552 Because Diana is the star or focus of the group, hence Diana Ross and The Supremes.

Cindy is lip synching her own vocals pre recorded for this performance, as is Mary, but on the actual record it is Florence, Mary and the Andantes singing the backing vocals

Sounds better than the record (especially the background) and Ross in a great key. But she always had problems with this lyric for some reason and screws up the last verse.

Ross had a problem w/a lot of lyrics. On Sullivan's show, she totally trainwrecks "Forever Came Today" & another song "I Hear A Symphony", & she twist "You Can't Hurry Love", "Reflections" but she recovers & go on like nothing ever happened. The Supremes next lead singer, Ms. Jean Terrell murdered "Stoned Love" on the Mike Douglas Show but recovered & carried on very graciously. The sign of a real seasoned performer.😁

Yes, Ross does have a problem with the lyric. In fact this whole performance is a mess. Gowns that look like nightgowns, CIndy unable to lip sync her part correctly, Diana bobbing up and down like a teeny bopper...shall I go on?

The bass player hits a bum note at 02:16 but otherwise this is as close as you are going to get to a flawless performance! Diana Ross definitely seems to be singing live, showing just what a world class vocalist she was. Cindy and Mary probably as well, I would say (though no mics in evidence). They could all have been singing over a track pre-recorded at the venue - seems most likely. No disrespect to the bass player - they probably only got a couple of hours' run-through on a show like this and it's a tricky number with all the counter-intuitive chord progressions (I love HDH chord progressions!).

This song isn't 1 of the Supremes better remembered songs, but there's a melancholy, they capture that's kinda,,,,,,well,,,,,,hype,,,,,transfixing. Maybe, Mz. Ross was reflecting on her affairs of the X. I mean she didn't write the song, but she sure did capture it. Sorry, she did nowhere near as well with far-better known, melancholy songs from her like "Touch me in the morning. "
