Diana Taurasi and Cappie Pondexter are basketball royalty, 2 of the WNBA’s most lethal scorers amidst their respective primes. Taurasi has a résumé comparable to very few others - 2004 Rookie of the Year, 5x Scoring Champ, 9x All-Star, 10x All-WNBA 1st team, 4x All-WNBA 2nd team, 2009 League MVP, 2x Finals MVP, and 3x champion. She holds the WNBA record for career field goals, 3-pointers, free throws and points; also ranks 4th all-time in assists and 4th in career PPG. Her 25.3 PPG in 2006 still stands as the highest single season average in league history, as does her total of 121 made 3’s that same campaign.
Cappie Pondexter played for 5 teams in 13 seasons, compiling an impressive résumé of her own - 7x All-Star, 3x All-WNBA 1st team, 1x All-WNBA 2nd team, 2007 Finals MVP, and 2x champion. Cap ranks 4th all-time in career points, 5th in field goals, and 7th in assists.
Having played just 4 seasons together (2006-09), Taurasi and Pondexter led the Mercury to 2 championships. Diana won the scoring title 3 of those 4 years, with Cappie finishing 2nd once, 4th twice, and 8th once. They combined to average 44.8 PPG in 2006. I can’t confirm this as the highest combined scoring average by a duo in league history, but I wouldn’t be surprised if it is.
