As much as I hate the Western “He killed 100 bajillion” rhetoric, I’ve yet to see a leftist make an argument not based on “Well yeah his policies killed lots of people but look at what he did for China!” as if that excuses mass starvation even IF the western figures are exaggerated. I love my comrades but the double standards they hold for capitalist dictators vs socialist dictators is laughable. Yes industrialization and brining many out of poverty is good, but it is in no way an excuse for the many peasants who died as a direct consequence of bad statist policy (mainly the mass export of grain) but please, do make an argument, I’d love to be on comrade Mao’s side if such an argument could be made that his policies didn’t kill many of the working class Chinese.
