You had to be polished and attractive to a certain level in The biz back in that day. Even while being hit on by the man that could make or break your record sales. I remember this like yesterday, American Bandstand came on first then SoulTrain. It was a big deal back in the day in an inexplicable way unlike stardom of today. No one was as smooth as Don Cornelius though, Dick Clark was always super positive and a big fan as well of all of his guests.

If just shows how out of touch people are today in this current world, millenials and all. Just totally insecure and overly sensitive to everything and everyone. I totally enjoyed the great Dick Clark's interview of these incredibly gorgeous women. How he joked and played around with them, but didn't go overboard with the play and banter was just classic Dick Clark. May he and Joni Sledge both R.I.P.!

I remember when this originally aired. They sang "All American Girls" and "He's A Runaway." They looked great and I thought the album was their best since "We Are Family." I was really disappointed at the lackluster interest it received. I still think it's one of their most underrated and best studio albums.

Dick is the right name for this arrogant host. He was so harsh to Kim rushing her to name the place the group were going to attend to. This arrogant host was not arrogant at all...he was Dick f---ing Clark....he made people by permitting them to grace his stage. Your interpretation is f---ed and entirely over the top. He loved S-S because he gave them 10 minutes of BS and banter when he could have given them a quick 30 second interview tease. Baby, you are sooooo wrong in your assessment. If you weren't there, don't pretend that you know shit about who was.
@7554EdwardG
5 жыл бұрын
@@petewentz3528 Hi Pete, I have to say that having watched it I also ind Dick Clark cringeworthy on this clip - it doesn't matter that he was a powerful industry man. He didn't make people by "letting them grace his stage" - he would have an empty stage and no show at all without class acts like Sister Sledge. They made it on their own with sophisticated and polished talent and with very understated and likable personalities. It doesn't matter that Angel Face "wasn't there" - that would apply to most of the 89,000 people who have watched this. He bangs on about how "available" they may be, touches their skirts more than once and clamps a pervy hand on a shoulder and does rush them for answers! I am not a post "Me Too" revisionist, should anyone bring that up, either. This was obnoxious behaviour all those years ago too - except women were just expected to take it and be grateful for being on a TV show...
@petewentz3528
5 жыл бұрын
@@7554EdwardG I don't give a shit whether you call yourself Me Too or not. You refuse to accept history, cultural evolution, and social acceptable behavior, appropriate for the times. Clark was just doing his job...and help catapulting a minority act only otherwise seen on Soul Train into national prominence. He didn't feel them up under their skirt, he accentuated their sex appeal and choreography. All this inappropriate behavior was also going on and more on Black programs (including Soul Train) but you won't touch that either will you? Old Don had that long, 12 inch mic dangling all over the face and mouths of his female guests....not like we didn't know what that long, hard mic was symbolizing now, right? Baby, folks like you need their ever loving heads examined, and that mush and brain re-washed. You are so fucked up....it is pathetic. Live a little, baby, and get with the program.
