Dick was a hero for all those who long for peace in the wilderness. He was really the first vlogger. Dick's final request was that the park rangers would rake his beach. The park rangers to this day meticulously will rake his beach in honor of his last request. He actually would rake the beach in front of his cabin because he wanted it to look great and didnt' want any garbage on it. He could tell you what animals would walk on it and if people had walked on it. His videos and notes were priceless to those studying the animals and the area. Because of him, twin Lakes is one of the most popular and sought out places in Alaska. It's the mecca for campers, hikers and outdoorsmen. Whenever I get really stressed I love watching the dvd's and rereading his books. Thanks Dick; we will never forget you.

EQBard Gaming I know right,.... makes me want to go camping for an extended period of time. Working 7 days a week makes it hard to do so. Plus I live in East Texas so I will have to wait 3-4 months until it cools down

Sometimes when I can’t sleep, I imagine myself in dicks shoes. It really does the trick.

Our lives are enriched by the lives of Shawn James and Dick Proenneke and there sharing the lives many of us would like to experience. The parallels of these two men are amazing and love them for sharing their experiences.

My brother always wanted to be in the wilderness. He bought mules, moved to Snohomish and packed up into the mts. He hunted and lived as free as he could. Born 200 yrs too late.

Thank you so much for posting. The entire video went by before I realized it was over. How peaceful this must be. The way mankind is supposed to live perhaps, as opposed to today's standard of living. 🤔

Strong backs are made by good habits and vigorous lifestyle. Your back can heal itself if you are not popping pills to try to "fix it". 99% of all back injuries can be reduced to near zero pain, that doesn't mean zero effort, find a MacKenzie trained PT and they can help more than any pill or surgery!!

Good backs aren't born, they're made. Unless you have a disease your back can improve with moderate exercise.

I loved watching this with the old man when I was a kid. PBS would show it like 5 times a year. He's damn talented and a hard worker but I bet he enjoyed every minute of it.
