The KZitem clickhole strikes back emotionally... lol. So yeah, I have some NASCAR stuff on my playlist, so I get recommended vids about racing a lot. This title jumped out at me. I was *at* this race. It was one of the first I ever saw live. Queen City Speedway was less than 3 miles from the house I grew up in. (Just across I-75 from where IKEA is now.. for you who never saw it in its heyday) Me and Greg and others used to ride our bikes down there on Friday and Saturday nights and security didn't care if we went out on the track after the race while the lights were still on. I never knew I was sharing ground with a legend at the time... but I was. The sounds of the racecars out there every weekend in the summer was the background noise of my childhood. I would play in the yard and listen to them and count the rounds, and the yellows by the sounds of the engines. On a good night, if the wind was right, you could hear the PA system between rounds.

It's sad that he's gone and even sadder is a lot of young racers don't even know about him. RIP DT

Back when I was a kid, my Dad owned a Late Model, so I was always in the pits. This was in the early 80's. There was a guy at our local track, who smoked as well. It wasn't until he was seen drinking a beer during the race, that parked his dumb a$$! We also had a 300 pound driver. He has his door opening modified, so he could squeeze into his car! Now a days, we are packed every Saturday night! Our local track puts on a great show every single week!

One thing that I always think about, you've got to wonder, where would Dick have stacked up in NASCAR had he come in full time during the 70s

It shows how hard it was to get into NASCAR. And not much else! ASA was just as competitive as any other series and me and the two girls spent a fun Saturday at Odessa MO.!

Was the "Grand Mark?" series for older body styles, compared to the main ASA latemodel division?

Barry M , /The Grand Mark Series was an economical series that A.S.A. ( american speed association) tried for a couple of years. They used Chevy celebrity bodies
