This car was never a reality for me but I've been chasing your videos for every reason. To me, the '70 Challenger is the best (Corvettes excluded) looking car ever made in America. I have one as well as a "14 RT 6spd. So the NHRA certs seem to indicate that the Demon 170 can do as advertised. Should Dodge have provided a disclaimer that "individual results may vary"? I kind of think that a small percentage of buyers will be really concerned about 10ths of a second speed and trap times. It is an absolute beast and I think it's a decent send off car. I really love your channel for my Mopar content @RacerX. Also, as a native Californian living in Georgia, I share some of your allergy pain.

If I’m not mistaken NHRA certified times require multiple passes so I don’t think the NHRA certified claims are going to be impossible to match but it will be difficult. My DDHC is NHRA certified 0-60 or 3.5 (I’ve done 3.4/3.2 roll out subtracted) and NHRA certified 11.5 (I’ve done 11.5 @ 118).. it’s not easy to do repeatedly but it’s entirely possible.

Dodge should have bypassed their dealership network and sold this vehicle directly, maybe through Direct Connection like the Hornet GLH. At this point I hope dealers go away for all manufacturers and move to a Tesla sales model. I used to love watching my parents dicker and deal for cars when I was a kid. I picked up a lot and used some of their strategies when buying some of my first car's. I found purchasing a car to be entertaining and a challenge. But the last 10 years has been different, especially now. Dealers are marking up everything, even used. They won't deal and they don't care if you walk out because 1. They know some other sucker will buy it and 2. They know you're going to get the same treatment from another dealer. So the thrill of the hunt is gone. If I have to pay MSRP on a no dicker sticker, then at least let it be like a Tesla buying experience.

I don't doubt this car will run 8.9 something. Remember, they announced 8.91. That pass was horrible in LV. The guy looked awful. He was late, he let off the throttle when he shouldn't have. He looked scared. Guys that know how to drive will be under 9 and that was the goal. Most people that have the money to buy this car, can't drive for shit. We've all seen them at the track in their gay gto running a 15.5. To bitch about an advised number that is clearly obtained under the right conditions (just like every other car ever produced) is pretty petty. People bitch, it's what they do. That still doesn't take away from our government screwing us out of the muscle car Era when they're spraying shit on the clouds amd blaming the cars. I don't think Dodge made a mistake, because ultimately what they're looking for is attention which in-turn means profits. Look at the attention they've gotten! I like that Dodge has prioritized building cars sold at MSRP first, I'm sure there will a certain number sold at sticker. Most dealers are going to capitalize on the opportunity to make some extra money...and while I hate what it does to guy like myself who would be a buyer at or very near MSRP, I also understand the free-market and realize with the good comes the bad too. There will be an interesting consequence of these over-MSRP sales, not so much for specialty cars, but for the everyday cars and trucks being sold over sticker for the past few years, and it will hurt both the consumer and dealers alike. That is, as the market settles, people will be stuck paying off cars for longer intervals, and unable to afford the loss a trade-in value will provide as it won't cover both their pay-off (debt) and down-payment on a new vehicle for those who buy cars like a chain-smoker consumes cigs. Bottom line, the price hikes that lined the pockets off the dealers will be met with sales slumps in the near future.
@SRT-td3zw

The only ones that will be sold at sticker price are for the elites like the Dodge execs and millionaires with a voice like Jay Leno as an example. Tim Kuniskis will certainly make sure that Leno will get one at sticker price because he knows that a guy like Leno will sink him with bad publicity. The thousands of us normal people who've been Dodge's loyal customers all get screwed! After they build the first 100 or so at sticker price for the elites, the rest will be bought by unknown millionaires who can afford the outrageous mark ups and you'll see them on auction within a year. Raptor R comes out limited, my dealer is getting 3 but the dealer owner is keeping those for his buddies, and all the other dealers are adding the F.U. price to get one, just like the Dodge dealers, on top of the $110K base price. Getting upset that you can’t get 8.90 is like getting upset that you don’t get the gas mileage they said it would. Of course they’re going to give you their best numbers to sell the car.

I do get the mpg promised for my car. Sometimes, better then. So yeah, if I brought a performance car I am expecting it to hit what they promise and say it will. Otherwise that like buying a 24k gold jewelry and it being 14k. Just...no.

True, to a point. I can't get upset if the car is advertised at 25mpg and it only gets 22mpg, but if it's getting only 17mpg, we've got an issue. Now that said, the car will be lucky to run an average number of 9.40. Traction and track prep aside, if there are half to 0.6 seconds discrepancy, that would indicate that the vehicle doesn't produce advertised horsepower. Which is exactly what dodge is doing! They're advertising SAE horsepower numbers from the factory (engine on a Dyno with a strict set of testing parameters). That car at the ADVERTISED power will absolutely never be able to accomplish it's goal. This is why colder, denser air is required for the car to achieve it's best pass. Colder denser air makes more power. And both scenarios are achieved at sea level. The EPA sets strict standards for fuel economy so that it is possible to achieve by the majority of the people who purchase the vehicle. The EPA doest have ANY standards for quarter mile time 😂 Apples to oranges comparison. Realistic expectations vs. Fantasy expectations.

Facts! I average 6.5mpg... claim from Dodge is 12 city/17 highway. My poor gas mileage is a result of my own driving and not the vehicle itself or it's capabilities.

My favorite part was when dodge thanked the dealers, like bro their the reason I left the brand.... they reward the greedy dealers with more allocations meanwhile the dealers that sell at MSRP only got 1 or none of the final additions? Currently waiting to see options and pricing for a dark horse, depending on that I might just get a 2022 gt500 But honestly might just keep my money, don't mind spending it but I'm not about to waste it on Mark ups

The price is ridiculous and it's a one hit wonder: One year and out. To me, it's a waste of money designing, building, and shipping all these special edition cars that are going to be permanently discontinued by the end of the year.

If you own a Demon or lucky enough to purchase Demon 170. An are disappointed, you need therapy. Plaid may be fast but I will take American Muscle any day. What Dodge needs to do is pull all allocations from dealerships charging over sticker. That’s the slap in the face to loyal dodge owners. Manufacturer’s CAN STOP the overpricing if they want. It’s just nobody gives a shit.

I agree with you on Dodge needing to pull allocations from the dealerships charging over sticker price. As for the disappointment part, I would be upset if it does not land that 8.90s on every run for me too. But that's just me liking to keep standards at what's set. I agree with X and think dodge should have just promissed a different time and if someone nails a sub 9sec run then awesome news. But having so many struggle to get a car to come close to the posted times seems kinda, disappointing. Don't get me wrong, the demon 170 is going to be a blast. But not hitting what's promised is something worth being disappointed over

I have to comment on your cut to the original Total Recall clip... I laughed my ass off 😂! Seriously... I haven't laughed out loud like that, by myself, with nobody around in a long, long time. Thank you for that. Now for my comment on the Demon 170. I'll never see one in person unless I'm at a car show or maybe... MAYBE at a track. The markup on this car will be so astronomical that only the super rich and famous will get one. It's a literal damn shame. If anyone reading my comment has big money and is having major issues getting a 170... Do this... Buy a used 392 and build it specifically to dog walk that 170. Do a bit of research to find a track where the new fastest production car will be racing, get in your built-not-bought Dodge, throw your middle finger up, and drag that rich prick down the track! I know that sounds a bit childish, but I don't care. I am still laughing from that Total Recall cut... 😂

They all market at the extreme best times on the bell curve, but with Dodge being a hyper torque real wheel drive cars as opposed to less torqued cars they are further out on the curve with that claim. I'm sure some elite driver hit it, with the perfect conditions and prep, but your average pretty good driver will be seeing high 9s and 10s at the track, 11s on the street.
