Evangelical Steven Pynakker's latest episode of Mormon Book Reviews features an interesting panel discussion about a very controversial hypothosis regarding the early days of the Mormon Movement. Brandon Crockett and Cody Noconi (author of "The Psychedelic Origins of Mormonism, Magic and Drugs") are the co-producers of "EntheoMagus," a 40-minute documentary exploring the possibility that Joseph Smith and the early Mormons were using psychedelic sacraments. Brandon was also director of the film and Cody was the writer. They are joined by independent Mormon researchers Alex Criddle Bryce Blankenagel (from Naked Mormonism and the Glass Box podcasts) who also appear in the film.

The conversation delves deeply into the first hand accounts of Frederick M. Smith's (grandson of Joseph Smith, Jr. and third prophet / president of the RLDS church) peyote use, Solomon Mack's (grandfather of Joseph Smith, Jr.) visionary experiences that have direct resemblance with datura use, other visionary experiences of Joseph's family that have direct overlap with psychedelic use symptoms, magical leanings at the time in the culture and their direct ties to psychedelics, and a breakdown of the logistics of the film's production.
