Thanks for the comparison. The results don't surprise me. I'm a long time Oktava user and have found the mics to be remarkably flexible across various situations while maintaining a very high quality sound. HOWEVER (and it's a big however), they are as physically delicate as the wings of a moth! They will not take rough handling for a moment. Also, I've found their quality control to be extremely hit and miss. I've literally had about half a dozen of them crap out on me for no reason, sometimes at the worst possible moment. Do not ignore ANY unusual noise or crackling from them - it's likely the beginning of the end. Of course I've tried other mics in a similar price bracket, but I keep going back to the Oktavas. They seem quite hard to get nowadays and for a darn good reason too! The morality of purchasing them is arguable under the current international situation. So, yeah, I'd recommend them for their sound, but they come with BIG health warnings on several levels. Thanks again. Good work! 🙂

It kind of does demonstrate why the Lewitt could be a better choice for recording acoustic guitar. I hope so, as I've just ordered a 040 matched pair. I assume they'll be great for me while I work out just what I need for acoustic guitar recording. The bottom end is important, but certainly the octiva sounds like it's got a lot I'd have to filter out both for recording the guitar, but for the background noise where I record.

I’ve been looking for a budget indoor dialogue boom mic and both these mics have been on my radar. This is exactly the video I was looking for as most of the videos review these mics for instruments. I’ve one question please. Given the small size and weight of the LCT, will it be possible to use a decent shock mount for the boom pole? Great video as usual.

It is possible, I have a shock mount that it barely fits in but does the job. I’m sure you can find a smaller one to compensate for the LCT. Thanks for checking out the video

These Lewitt mics are meant for drum overheads and acoustic guitars

Hey there, thank you for this review! I’m thinking about these little lewitt for miking a Gospel choir: because of the small dimensions, frequency response and natural off axis behavior, I think they should behave fine if placed “inside” the choir, I feel they should give a good and tight presence. What do you think?

Theoretically it should work. But for that application, with all of the reverb in a big room, I would probably go with a “higher quality” microphone. Possibly the Rode pencils, audio Technica, Oktava. Something along those lines will be more reliable. This lewitt is good for thing that aren’t too serious. Or for someone trying to figure out if this is what they want to do. Hope this helps. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks for checking out the video!

I have a pair of what I guess are vintage at this point, oktava matched stereo pairs I picked up new around 2002/2003...to this day they sound amazing on my drum set...I actually just picked up the lewitt 040 matched pair the other day and to me blending the 2 sets of mics is the ultimate studio drum mic setup...the octavas offer that boosted low end for the stereo pair of overheads, the lewitts spread 140 degrees apart, akg 214 room mic, and a sm57 on the snare...the sound this $600 drum mic setup gives can rival the sounds ive gotten in differnt actual recording studios over the years using much more expensive u87, u67, beta57s ect

Definitely oktawa wins. What about t.bone sc 140, is it better than the lewit40 for interior speech?

I only listened to a couple of examples from the tbone. I would say it’s better than the lewitt but not better than the okatava

I'd recommend trying the much older lct 340 for voice-over.

I love my LCT 340s on acoustic guitar and have had good results with one boomed for speech. But sadly they're a discontinued model.

Holy crap. In the untreated room the Oktava is leaps & bounds better. I'm so so upset that I sold mine for only $50 a few years ago, and I wanted another SDC so I just bought an 040 but now I want to return it. I don't hate the Lewitt at all and I think they could sound similar with some EQ so I think I'll still give it a try in my space.

I dont think there is enough of a difference for the Lwewitts target audience to care. For the price the Lewitt is a deal and is going in my home studios locker.

Октава имеет насыщенный глубокий натуральный живой звук, - так как мы слышим ушами.
