I've had my scented geraniums look like that after overwintering, and I planted them, and they came back.....,...Now every Autumn I let them dry out in their pots, store them in 40f degree basement, plant in early spring, and they always come back! They lose all their leaves and I trim them to two inches before I pop them into new soil. There is one catch..... I've noticed if they have not gone woody on their stems, they'll die with this method. All of mine are at least 5 years old, and have woody stems, and always come back after overwintering.

I bring my geraniums in the house as a house plant, flowers in the house. Just have them as a tropical house plant

Yup, me too. I think the best alternative is bringing them in as houseplants for the winter. I hope you subscribe too!

If the stems are still hard and not super squishy, and as long as there is some color (not all brown) it should be fine.
