Under Napoleon, French Jews had more freedom and rights, than other European Jews. Wherever Napoleon conquered, his armies brought Jewish emancipation with them, most notably in Germany. But, when the French forces were forced out, oppression returned, and Jews lost their rights to study and work, in any field, and were forced back into the ghettos.

This is a great dynamic of our Jewish history and cultural identity to highlight. In short this truly was the moment where we as Jews in a sense stopped looking at ourselves as a people and more as just another religion. It was the Jewish attempt to try to become equals in other countries. As history shows it did not work. We will always be Jews cause it is who we are. We are more than just another religion we are a people and as we show are stronger united. Thank you for this video. Well done.

No concession to the Jews made by France?! How about equality under the law and citizenship ? As they said at the time: "no right for Jews as a nation all the rights for Jews as individuals". Napoleon also said that he wanted too prevent the Jews being a "nation in the nation". Remember these individual rights were not granted under the ancien regime. It was a system of estates, the body of the nation was very restricted to mostly nobility and clergy. If I am a noble man who has a lineage that gets back to the crusades, who received its ancestral land from Saint Louis himself, do you think I am eager to let everyone have the same saying in the matters of the realm than me?! Besides, Jews were considered aliens living in a Christian state. Depending on the realm and period it was a more or less tolerated minority, that had restrictions but privileges as well (they were treated as a group). Not sure a peasant was necessarily better off. Man a bit more of historical context would be great, especially as now a lot a French politicians are talking about this as a model to have with Muslims... You could have the same questions, about marriage, double allegiance, apostasy etc...

We also have to give some credit to a guy who ruled shortly before Naplean did, Robesespiere. He gets, and no doubt deserves, a bad reputation. But he did good stuff, too. On the issue of the Jews, he said, "They should have no rights as a people, but all rights as individuals." In other words, they should have no special privileges, but should have the same rights as every other French citizen, neither more nor less. This led the way to the opening of the French ghettos and the naturalizing of French Jewish citizens. This equality under the law continued up to the present day, except for when France was ruled by Nazi collaborators. Incidentally, the French revolutionary period was also when France legalized gas sex, which remained the law until the present day, with the exception, again, of the Nazi controlled Vichy government. The French Revolution in general gets a bad reputation, and not without reason. And Napoleon, who waged wars of invasion all over Europe, North Africa, and Haiti, was not universally loved, either. But that just shows how complicated history can be. And as another side note, in England, wealthy (and not like by many, but this time for no good reason) banker Jewish Jacob Rothschild lent a lot of money to the King of England, to help him fight Napoleon, and thus was able to convince the king to open the English ghettos, too. So, yay for the political chaos in 18th century France? History can be strange.

We real Jews are not fooled by this racialization of a faith by European elitist by white sacrificing to hide the plot to make Jews white to secretly promote white supremacy under the guise of creating a European Israel in the Middle East. Jews are not a race and isn’t based on flesh and blood. So, Napoleon, Hitler, and other Zionist are just promoting what they claim to be fighting: global white supremacy. Good propaganda though.
