The Q-Star algorith is autonomous problem solving at a very high level and that should make us all very concerned. You may be able to align AI, but you cannot align bad actors and the proliferation of these models is also 1000x easier than any other WMD. Just imaging you can tell an AI agent to do something very bad and it will continue to solve all the complex problems along the way until it reaches this defined goal and it does it all fully autonoumously in the background. You can also potentially send out thousands of agents at once. Think manipulation of elections globally, destruction of a person's reputation, spam, fraud, decryption of AES 192 codes, surveillance, manipulation and the list goes on and on and on.

OpenAI wants to build advanced AI. But when they get close, they get scared and want to stop? That's weird. If they're so afraid, just quit working on it. For the rest of us, an AI that can solve math problems well would change everything. It could fix engineering, biology, and medical issues by making faster, better math calculations. That would matter more than models that are good at language.

The problem I have with it just being the potential singularity of AGI, is that this is the goal of openAI. I don’t see them blowing up the company because they achieved their goal, but rather because they experienced something with the AGI (assuming they have achieved it) something specific that has a decided negative trajectory and that is the fear. I agree it has to be AGI related, but it has to be tethered to Ilya’s fears manifesting, not his hopes.

@hydrohasspoken6227 AI is headed for AGI, and it will occur soon, most experts say within 2 years. It could very well be sooner. The rapid advancement won't slow down and will accelerate. AGI is inevitable and not far off. And from that moment on, we will be speeding toward ASI. The singularity is predicted by 2045 by Kurzweil. It could happen sooner. We are in the middle of an arms race of unprecedented proportions and the stakes are higher than we can imagine. For the sake of the world, the US must be the leader in AI. We have to win the race, and I believe we will. When there is competition at this level and with the stakes so high, the advancements will likely surpass time estimates. Humans are extremely competitive, especially with international adversaries. We would have never landed on the moon so early without the space race and the competition from the Soviets. I don't think Kurzweil calculated the arms race aspect of AI into his estimates, which makes me think 2045 is a very modest estimate for the singularity and it will likely happen sooner.

My thoughts - it's not about AGI. If, in fact, acheiving AGI is what triggered Ilya and the board to act, they could have stated that reason to interim CEO Emmett Shear and FTC without repurcussion as it still aligns with their mission even if their actions were misguided, yet they continue to be criptic in their response, which suggest their reason for firing Altman was not aligned with the mission of OpenAI. I see a scenario where the four board members justfied the firing because Altman established a for-profit venture to develop chips optimized for AI, which will enable Altman to indirectly profit from OpenAI. Now, this creates a slight conflict of interest for Altman as you can't perfectly align "AI safety" with "profit", but it would also not necessary be illegal or against corporate rules of conduct. Now, there may be clauses in the CEO employment agreements that disallow the firing of a CEO unless there is apparent misconduct. However, the four board members clearly stated Altman was not forthcoming in his communication, which has already been said to be not the case by Emmett Shear. It's possible this exposes the four board members to legal liability for wrongful termination - one possible reason they are not forthcoming with their reason for firing Altman. I also see a scenario where the four board members were simply not happy because Altman did not share with them and the rest of the team in this for-profit scheme. (That Altman did not include others from OpenAI in his venture is just my assumption.) But again, this would not be a good legal reason to fire Altman and would only make the four board members appear spiteful, jealous and unprofessional. In either situation, the board members come out of this looking worse than they already do.

Two things I think. One is integrating that with an LLM. And not a list of steps, but an exploration of possible steps, and optimizing them. I guess "reasoning', something like we do.

Too much fear in AI circles. The board of OpenAI has been the first casualty of tis hysteria. Even with the supposed Q star + current LLMs, there's still some way to go before achieving AGI. We can hit the brakes when the lights turn yellow, not when they are green. How will ChatGPT take on humanity? Through a scary poem that it can write? Or spewing back information that's been available for years on the internet anyway (because that's what it was trained on).

Right but Q* is a problem solving algorithm. It doesn't just find an average of all it's training data, but it actually comes up with original ideas to solve problems it's given. @@gabrieldarcy1744 Assuming it does all it's hyped up to do i.e. solve mathematical problems, there's still the issue of expressing real-world problems as mathematical problems for it to solve. That's NOT a given. Then there's also the fact that it needs all those thousand NVIDIA chips to solve what a high school student with half a brain can solve on a burger and a Coke. I'm not saying that we won't get to AGI but that we should not let unjustified fear hinder or delay progress. There's still some ground left to cover to get there, let's not get hysterical and self-sabotage. What we should worry about is keeping vested interests like militaries' hands off these advancements.

>> I believe we are meant to be like Jesus in our hearts and not in our flesh. But be careful of AI, for it is just our flesh and that is it. It knows only things of the flesh (our fleshly desires) and cannot comprehend things of the spirit such as peace of heart (which comes from obeying God's Word). Whereas we are a spirit and we have a soul but live in the body (in the flesh). When you go to bed it is your flesh that sleeps but your spirit never sleeps (otherwise you have died physically) that is why you have dreams. More so, true love that endures and last is a thing of the heart (when I say 'heart', I mean 'spirit'). But fake love, pretentious love, love with expectations, love for classic reasons, love for material reasons and love for selfish reasons that is a thing of our flesh. In the beginning God said let us make man in our own image, according to our likeness. Take note, God is Spirit and God is Love. As Love He is the source of it. We also know that God is Omnipotent, for He creates out of nothing and He has no beginning and has no end. That means, our love is but a shadow of God's Love. True love looks around to see who is in need of your help, your smile, your possessions, your money, your strength, your quality time. Love forgives and forgets. Love wants for others what it wants for itself. Take note, true love works in conjunction with other spiritual forces such as patience and faith (in the finished work of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, rather than in what man has done such as science, technology and organizations which won't last forever). To avoid sin and error which leads to the death of our body and also our spirit in hell fire, we should let the Word of God be the standard of our lives not AI. If not, God will let us face AI on our own and it will cast the truth down to the ground, it will be the cause of so much destruction like never seen before, it will deceive many and take many captive in order to enslave them into worshipping it and abiding in lawlessness. We can only destroy ourselves but with God all things are possible. God knows us better because He is our Creater and He knows our beginning and our end. Our prove text is taken from the book of John 5:31-44, 2 Thessalonians 2:1-12, Daniel 7-9, Revelation 13-15, Matthew 24-25 and Luke 21. Let us watch and pray... God bless you as you share this message to others.
