I loved this movie as a kid. I don't think I had any of the figures, but I had the boat. I was a little disappointed that it couldn't float, but my dad fixed that with a few pieces of brown electrical tape.

"Did the movie flop?" Depends on how you look at it. The final budget was 235 million. And the box office and money earned was 264 million. And an additional 8 million from Home Media. But Universal only spent 12 million themselves. The rest of the budget was mostly covered by investors. And Kevin spent $22 million to contribute to the budget. BTW, Kevin Costner's paycheck was $12 million. And of the earnings, Universal got 45% - so, $145 million So... For the movie studio... It cost them $12 million, and earned them $145 million.

The first Time I ever saw Waterworld was the 3-hour extended cut. They showed it on ABC one night as a special presentation, and i absolutely loved it. SO i went out the next weekend and rented it on VHS and was shocked at how much had been removed. All the stuff they cut out is the stuff that explains the unexplainable in the shorter version, which means that everything goes from stupid action to sci-fi epic.

I've noticed that a lot of movie toylines in the 90s were mainly produced by Kenner/Hasbro (Robin Hood, Waterworld, Jurassic Park, Terminator 2, Batman, Predator, Aliens), Mattel (Last Action Hero, Demolition Man), or Trendmasters (Independence Day, Godzilla 1998, Lost In Space) If you needed a toyline for your movie in the 90s, those guys were the ones to call.

I read that Water World was to be originally a Roger Corman producting with a 5 million dollar budget. Plans changed. It's not a horrible movie, but it does beg to ask... where did the Smokers get tobacco? If paper is rare, then why are they burning cigarettes? It's a bit all over the map on the world building. Toys looked like rack toys but it was the mid 90's.

I haven't seen a Waterworld toy in ages. Cool to see these again. It's a sort of sci-fi dystopian movie that takes advantage of the 'global warming is gonna melt the ice caps' hysteria. Yes, Dances With Wolves would have been kinda fun. I enjoyed the Zorro and Lone Ranger toys, so I probably would have gotten a few Dances With Wolves toys even though I didn't like that movie very much back then. Oh, the Kevin Kostner Robin Hood movie was awful. Watching that movie drove me nuts because Robin Hood is supposed to be English. Kevin is terrible at playing anything other than Midwest farmer or rancher type characters. I totally forgot about the toys for that one. What a great channel this is for reminding us of all these obscure toys! The Ghostbusters toys were super awesome! I loved that each character came with a ghost. They were Ghostbusters so they needed ghosts to bust. It made sense. The mutant fish in this Waterworld toy line are really odd. Kenner was king at cutting corners and reusing assets. Yes, the modern toys made after the late 80's are really detailed and look so much more like the characters they are supposed to be. I do love the 80's and earlier figures that I grew up with, but even I have to admit that the more modern toy lines have ton of detail. I love the Batman the Animated Series toys! Those were super because the figures of the main characters and the vehicles looked just like the ones in that fantastic cartoon. So funny! I can totally picture someone having a special bathtub just for playing with Waterworld. What an image. :) Yeah, Enola should have totally have been in the line. Good point. Any kid who played with this whole set (if there were any) probably had to resort to using one of the Kenner Adventure People kids or something. The Trimaran is kinda cool. It's no U.S.S. Flagg, but it is pretty neat. It doesn't float? That's shocking. I don't think that I'll ever be getting any of these, but they are a lot of fun to look at and talk about. Good video!

If you were a kid and fan of this flick, it seems like this could've been a fun toy line. It would've been disappointing that it didn't continue and didn't have more diversity. It is an obvious weakness that these weren't aquatic toys, though.

Bomb of a movie or not, the toys are just boring, generic, and not very appealing in appearance at all, even with the details and texturing. Too much "bleh" grays and browns. I had no interest in them as a kid. I was all about Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Batman toys.

Retrospectively, this movie is basically Mad Max...in water. I wonder if there's a Mad Max...in the air. If I'm being honest, this movie mostly eluded me as a kid. I've still never seen it to this very day, but I would kind of like to sit down and watch it someday. What I remember most about Waterworld is, honestly, people talking about how bad it was and/or how much it flopped. And I'm glad that the live show was brought up, because it's interesting in that the only real success to come out of all this was that show. It's so interesting how people LOVED that show, but the love for it was never shared for the movie in and of itself. What this DOES remind me of is something actually, ironically, probably even more obscure yet I didn't miss out on: Pirates of Dark Water. I'd love to see an episode on those toys!
