Thanks for the details on the various packages! After narrowing our choice between the RDX and a BMW X3, we are going with the RDX due to long term reliability and the raised theater type of rear seat so our disabled 34 yr old son can better see out. In the BMW, the rear seat occupant gets a great look at the front seat headrest.

We have a 2019 with all the available options. The only problem we've had was one unreliable key that was replaced without any problems. The sound system, ride quality, and interior quality are all excellent. I'm not 100% sold on the entertainment system interface but it's better than some. Would definitely buy this again.

I just purchased a new 2023 RDX Advanced A-Spec and the infotainment system just takes getting used to it. Once I set up my presets, I can connect Apple CarPlay and then speak what I want to do. Listen to music or navigate. Don't have to touch the pad at all. The only thing I wish was that the vehicle got better gas mileage, other than that I love the car.

Acura's are usually not the best in any one to three areas if you are looking for class leading features. Acura shines if you have a longer check list and need a "jack of all trades" vehicle with flexibility and long term reliability. The Acura RDX will be on the road for +150,000 miles compared to European brands that are replaced when the lease is up in 3 years. My 08 RDX is still on the road with +195,000 miles.

I just got a 2022 A-Spec Advance and was worried about the touchpad but after a couple of days fiddling with it and after setting everything up is great, would like to have the option of a touchscreen? yes of course, but the touchpad is not as bad as people make it to be and when you factor in all the features and tech you get for less money than the competition is a no brainer, i love mine.

Nice review, enjoyed your to the point comments. I own a new 2022 Advance. The touch pad works fine for me. We also own a 2018 Odyssey with touch screen and I prefer the touch pad. Traded in a Mazda CX-5 Grand Touring which I loved and feel like the Acura is a major step up. Looked at the Audi Q5 but was turned away at the cost of long term ownership. Too bad the 2019 suffers from Limp mode issues but the replacement intercooler seems to fix this. The Odyssey has had a few recalls such as the fuel pump, which most Honda’s needed, to fix the limp mode. No big deal. So far, loving the RDX Advance.

For mid life upgrades, you cannot expect change in numbers for power or fuel economy. it's not economical for automakers to do such big changes during the life cycle of a model, normally lasting 4 years.

Bike test is okay but I'd prefer just a statement about cubic feet of storage with the seats up and down. This allows me to easily compare to other SUVs since cargo storage is a priority for my needs. Thanks for a nice compact review; some reviewers go on and on about slight exterior front tweaks. IMO, an HD review reveals the cosmetic stuff and doesn't require a big marketing pitch, so thanks for that. Since you reviewed the Advance/A-Spec this next comment doesn't apply as much but it's nice to know what features are only available in another package ( say you mention that heads-up display requires package -X if you want it ). Good to find your channel. Thank you.

Simple cubic feet of storage comparison can be misleading. Tesla Model Y has technically more storage than the Outback or Tesla Model S, but you can't fit a bike in Y because it's too narrow of a entry point, whereas you can fit it in the other two. The bike test measure accessibility which comes in handy when transporting small pieces of furniture, etc.

You should spend another day using the touchpad because I think it's an excellent interface. Much easier and safer than a touchscreen where y5have to concentrate more on the screen to make sure you hit the correct "button" as well as try to keep your finger on the correct spot while the car is moving. The awesome touchpad has a hand rest placed perfectly.

You are correct. The touchpad is not difficult, but once you get the hang of it, not really a problem. I use Apple CarPlay and really don't have to use the touchpad much at all.

I think it is best to wait for the updated or next iteration of the RDX due to the clunky infotainment system. I would suggest getting this 2022 version only if you are given a deal you just can't pass up.
@mlodyme3675

I am with you on this one. we have been eyeing RDX since it was introduced in 2019, but cant get over how crappy the infotainment is. You might get 10" but in reality you only have 2/3 of usable screen for basically all functions, - backup camera is tiny, apple car play is tiny - all those things take away from otherwise a good vehicle. and don't get me started on the fact that Acura is the only premium/luxury brand that is stubborn to include touch. I don't want them to go all Audi because I hate that too, but if they added touchscreen and allowed the system to take advantage of full 10" for things like maps, backup camera and CarPlay/android auto, this would be perfect vehicle.

I lease the 2021 a-spec, great car overall but I think Acura can do better, they need new colors, even Honda got the new sonic gray. My 2021 doesn’t have wireless CarPlay nor wireless charging, which I don’t understand. My old 2018 TLX had wireless charging. The exterior refresh was only applied to the front, the rear bumper remains the same and the rear lights still have that bulb turn signal (not LED) Acura is in the right direction but very slow, they need to be more aggressive and less conservative (for a luxury car).

Takes a day to figure out the touchpad. Once it's set up, I don't have to mess with it. I use Apple CarPlay and talk the commands to it. I use the control wheel to change stations. Not a big deal. I do agree with fuel economy, but I overlook it because of the fantastic drive and reliability.
