Oh my god you hit the nail on the head. I have seen so many outdated building techniques on the continent it makes my head spin. And I always hear that's the way it's done here. No if there are modern more advanced ways to do things you are supposed to adopt them.

I’ve just subscribed. Like you said, it’s your house, and you did the research. We have to stand strong when these workmen/contractors etc, put you off. It’s not easy, but as you have learnt, if you don’t do it right the first time, you will end up doing it over and over. I am glad you have assessed what you have learnt to do better in the future and looking forward to seeing more of your progress. Even though it has been difficult, you are preserving which is the most important thing. It already looks Tons better. Do what you need to do, to have a stronger foundation that will last longer, and protect your house, which ultimately I am sure, is what you want. Thanks for sharing, 💖

Your home is beautiful! I’m sorry that you had to go through that but The Most High gives us learning opportunities to help others that run into the same situation. You are very blessed to have such a wonderful opportunity to move to Ghana! My whole family is planning on moving there from the states in the next 2 months but I’m just concerned about the buying of land and building process. If you don’t mind me asking about how much did you spend on your land and building your home? How much land did you buy? Many blessings and your continued success in your channel!!

Amen! Thank you so much 🙏🏽 You and your family are also blessed to finally be able to put your plans of moving into reality 🙌🏽 We purchased the land many years ago before there was anything in that location and as for how much we spent to build I am trying to collate that information but it is difficult because I didn't really keep a proper record up until recently.

Thank you Abena 🙏🏽 From what I have heard from others it will only serve as a short term fix. So will definitely need to do something a bit more permanent in the future.

there is a dump proof chemical they use as an additive to the cement mortar mix also to prevent this happening. used in concrete mix and more. there is another that the apply to the foundation walls as a form of paint to prevent it absorbing the moisture and making it rise up. I didn't see any of these done. And it's best to use quary dust not in the mix ratio instead of sand or less sand and not quarter dust. this also deals with the issue

We have details of a company in Ghana that injects a chemical into the wall that reacts with water and becomes plastic in the brick, which is supposed to block raising damp,we are considering using it in the old house.... will keep you posted.

Yep that’s how it’s supposed to be done. Clearly they missed that portion . This might work, however, if the salt capillary is very aggressive it’ll skip the treated part and start showing above the untreated plaster . All isn’t lost. Because this is newly treated you can have the injections alone done on the mortar joints and replaster those portions. Good luck.

@@MrFoyoyo Please it possible to do the injection as you’re building the house rather than wait for it to finish? I’m asking for someone please.

@@AbenaK-K if the foundation hasn’t been completed then you’d just need to use a dpm(damp proof membrane)sheet before casting. With that they’d be no need for this at all. If the foundation has been cast already you can do the injection at the base mortar joints before plastering.

In Uganda we use clay bricks in the foundation plus dump proof membrane, it’s been done for years and it’s standard. Clay bricks also help absorb moisture

There's a reason why some house cost more than 2x for just the foundation. I invested in doing it the proper way using a original DPM and DPC
