@@SehlraC @jannik9061 as a local from Budweis I can help you if youd like...I would say the nicest thing to do in the city is just to stroll around the city center, get a brunch with coffee at a place called Datel, get a lunch at either Paluba or Potrefena Husa near the square (they do have a lovely terrace located upstairs). And then get dinner with some drinks at Ponorka. If you want to see a bit more, then definitely visit the castle of Hluboka nad Vltavou, which is located outside of the city-there are busses going there or you can order Bolt (european version of Uber).

If you wanna visit Český Krumlov, I recommend getting up either early or staying up until the evening. How the local tourism works is that a large portion of the crowds arrive by tour busses around noon-afternoon. They are there only to see the town for a couple hours. Therefore during the night, it's usually really empty.

@@wernerleinberger9847 exactly, particularly in Budweis throughout the history up till the 19th century the city was mostly german with almost everyone speaking german. To be quite honest Ive never fully understood why did Czechia merge particularly with Slovakia after ww1 since these two countries had literally nothing in common up to that date. The Czechs have always been tied to other germanic countries. And its also very shameful that ww2 took place which then resulted in deportation of millions of german speaking Czech citizens out of the country and thus eliminating German language from the country. I believe that being a bilingual country would be very beneficiary.
@nerfun5335
Ай бұрын
Your opinion is valid but in the eyes of Czech politicians in 1920s unacceptable. The term "Čechoslovakismus" was literally created in order to make a country with a Slavic majority. Without Slovaks it couldn't be possible to creat an independent country.
@vitkrivan9380
Ай бұрын
@@nerfun5335 well yeah, but politicians back then also believed that Czechs would be better off without their germanic brothers and thus, as you say, forced to merge Czech rep with an artificially created country of Slovakia. Which honestly wasnt probably the best idea-its hard to speculate on history but just looking at the 70 year period of having czechoslovakia-it pretty much corresponds to probably the biggest Czech downfall of its economy in its history. Also, how good were the Slovakians to the Czechs if they willingly let Hitler make them a fascist country and totally left the Czechs abandoned? I still believe that if the Czechs merged with Austria to have Czecho-austria, it would be beneficiary not just the Czechs, but probably even to the whole world since there would have been a good chance that Hitler would have never seized his power. But of course Masaryk and other czech politicians couldnt had known that :))

I visited on my way back to Prague from Cesky Krumlov in summer of 2022. It was very hot then, but worth stopping by. I visited the Budvar Brewery which has a delightful restaurant and plenty of great beer from tank as well, which I would recommend as well to anyone who might visit after seeing this video. It is a bit further out of the centre of town but there are buses that go there. I didn't spend very long in the town centre itself but i had pleasent walk around, another pint of Budvar (when in Rome, etc) and went back to Prague to cool down :D My next trip to Prague is in November and I think I will visit again for a day trip... or maybe to Turnov where you filmed another video recently. I also want to try and fit a trip to Brno in too... woe is me, too many great places to decide on.

I’ve spent a few happy days in Budweis in May with my wife, almost never leaving the historic centre bar a few walks across the water surrounding it, and we loved it. Very relaxed and friendly town. For parking, we suggest the new garage to the West of the old town, next to the north-south thoroughfare, very clean and cheap and just a short walk through the park from the centre (we were on a road trip anyway). Budweis is much less touristy than Česky Krumlov, but only a short drive away, and you can do worse than visiting Krumlov on a day trip from here. Diky to you guys for your inspiring movies from the less known destinations in your country, which we will explore bit by bit.

The Prior restaurant was not a luxurious spot, as far as I remember. It was a place to get a párek na stojáka. However, they had their own coffee cups and plates with the Prior logo, which was cool in the late 1980s when I went there as a preschooler with my mom. Recently, I had a chance to visit the spaces in the back of Prior, the hallways, and cargo lifts where goods come through, and that is such a cool time capsule! Spacious corridors are only partially lit with many dark corners and all the original doors, light switches, labels, even the tables, chairs, and yes, indeed ashtrays from the Cold War era. It just looks like a map from a shooter game set in 1980s commie land.

It comes from name of the settlement that was standing there before Přemysl Otakar II. turned it into a proper city. And that settlement was established by someone known as "Budivoj ze Železnice" (It was originally named as Budyeyowyczye). It was later then shortened to Buděj, which is somewhat used by the locals to this day with them refering to the city as "Budějce".
