Very informative. I just got a crested a couple days ago and I haven’t stopped watching videos and reading info on it.

I have a gecko, It's blue with orange spots and about 13 inches long, When he gets fired up he turns deep purple, growls, barks & bites onto me then clamps down till I bleed everywhere... He's evil & mean, I love him so much!

I have a beautiful little baby crested, and when she's fired down, she's tan, with some little grayish spots, not too exciting to look at, but when she's fired up, she's orange-yellow with black spots, a beautiful lizard, (although she doesn't have any super cool patterns). Thanks for sharing how to get them to fire up, I love being able to make her nice and pretty before I show her to my friends and family. Great video, as always. You deserve way more subscribers, even people who aren't as into lizards as I am should be able to appreciate your geckos.

I completely agree will you. It's the same with their eyes. Turn the lights on and they'll close their lens by narrowing them (allowing less light in) but if you turn off the lights, they will widen their lens (allowing more light in order) in order for them to continue to see. Which is pretty neat.

Dope video again! They do FIRE UP when they're feeling good! As in all husbandry on point (yes, that makes them feel good!)

Love watching your videos :) do you feed mealworms? I see a lot of back and forth online about it and I really hate crickets so was hoping I could avoid them

I have in the past but don't currently. I think the key is only feeding them if your geckos are on the warmer side of 75 - 80 that way they don't have digestion problems

A good portion of nocturnal geckos tend to fire up at night. Also taking into account that a gecko that is asleep will be fired down to different degrees depending on how much light exposure it gets. Could be some kinda way for them to regulate their bodies in response to light, such as increasing or decreasing how much uvb the skin will absorb. Just a theory.

I’ve got a 4 weeks old baby crested and I didn’t know they fire up and down when they’re babies so when I woke up the next day and it was a different colour I was so surprised. I knew they could do it but for some reason I wasn’t expecting it from the baby so quick

Very informative thanks man! You just gained a new subscriber. Question if you can answer. Do you leave a light on at all during the day then turn it off at night? Or does it not matter?
@Sostic

I don't have any lights on other than the natural sunlight they get so they do have a day and night cycle here. I would try to give them some sort of day and night cycle if you can.

I have a question.... my 16 month old female crestie seems she is always fired up, even when shes asleep... seems she loves to sleep in the light. Tank is always right around 72.5 to 74 degrees. Humidity 60- 80% she seems very happy. I have a another about 6-8 months, fired down during sleep and fired up during activity. There like complete opposite? I take very good care of them...

My crested gecko is going to be 3 years old next month and for the past year he hasn’t been fired up. He does not have stuck shed and he will be darker at night, but I just feel it’s not his full color😕Does anyone think he might be unhealthy or is it just as he gets older he’s losing his color?

Does keeping your crested gecko in a darker environment mess its sleep up? Mine tends to go to the vibe at the top of the enclosure when it’s dark and goes into thick plants when it’s lighter. When it is dark in my room during the day, she seems asleep but is in her “I’m awake and ready to come out spot” (she usually jumps out the front door onto my hand at night time but not when it is “dark” all the time). I use uvb during daytime but when I don’t and my room light is off she is up at the top not hiding at all

I think you should start a day night cycle. So for 12 hours it’s light and for 12 it’s dark. You can get an led light to mimic the day night cycle! It works well for my geckos.

If my gecko is already pretty dark normally is it possible for him to turn pure black?

Tearou .07 depends on the size of its a youngling it could develop darker pigments but if it’s an adult they tend to lose the boldness of the dark pigment as they age. My recommendation use the Repashy SuperPig (short for super pigment) supplement in there crested gecko diet. It’s supposed to be 4% of the mix so it’s literally a light sprinkle. Like a little seasoning for geckos if you will. People usually use it for Gargoyle geckos (very similar to crested geckos in terms of care) because their red/orange stripes turn out better with the supplement. The better the pigment the higher the price, my 9g crested gecko has developed more spots and a darker Flame when fired up. There’s not any hard evidence that it works but I would say my gecko has developed amazingly with the supplement (I also put the supplement on the food I give dubia roaches for gut loading purposes)
