Yo, Gods Bless You for putting this up. My family has watched this for every new years of my entire life, and now, stuck over a thousand miles away from them, this incomprable performance lets me be close to them once again. Thank you for this. Also, this whole cast fuckin slaps. Holy shit. Every time I fucking lose it. Best Orloffski ever to play the role.

Your language is incongruous . First sentence you incorporate God and the last sentence you run out of adjectives and resort to the F word to express yourself. I don't get it .

@@paulvesely4773 Ahahahahahahahahaha Okay, buddy. While I don't see what business it is of yours, I shall attempt to clarify, as your reading comprehension seems to have failed you on a few fronts and I, in turn, have a few free minutes this afternoon. First, if you notice, I didn't invoke (which, I argue, would be the more precise word choice; while incorporate is not wrong per se, it is definitely a weaker word choice as mere incorporation neither denotes not connotes affinity for a thing) GOD. I invoked GODS, because I'm a pagan; I worship several deities, none of which forbid obscenity. Second, even if I HAD invoked a singular god, and had INTENDED that invoked deity to be the Judeo-Christian All-Father, there is nothing in biblical scripture that argues against or precludes obscene speech, only PROFANE speech; that is, speech disrespectful toward that God specifically. Third, I in no way ran out of adjectives. I used a set of vernacular terms to describe the intensity of my emotional reaction to the piece. I chose those terms specifically and with great care, as it evokes the particular feeling of listening to an absolute fucking banger in a reader familiar with that vernacular. That you are not versed enough in said vernacular to parse it is not MY problem; despite this, I would encourage you to study it, as the particulars of description it provides are both visceral and evocative. I do understand and respect, however, that some people have a heartfelt (if typically rooted in classism) aversion to such vernacular, and would not be offended if you choose not to; after all, who am I (or any of us) to police another's' style of speech? Finally, even if I HAD run out of adjectives, I fail to see an incongruity in connection to invocation of God. Given the repetitive descriptors of so many Christian writings about their deity, the idea that the invocation of God should indicate facility and variety in description is, at best, specious. I hope this helps to clarify. Happy fathers' day!

- Grüße an alle Fans, Heinz

The orchestra and the cast were wonderful and for the most part I really enjoyed this performance. The one drawback was primarily in the third act. Excessive , tedious slap stick . For the most part not clever or funny. The premise of the Opera is in itself clever and very amusing and not in need of augmentation with very poor , time consuming attempts at humor. The audience was forgiving on this issue which should not be misconstrued as an endorsement . On balance , Thanks JD for posting this.

You might wish to take a look at the Wikipedia entry regarding this operetta: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Die_Fledermaus. I wonder if you have not realized, yet, that the third act serves as denouement to the buildup of the plot of the first two acts. In general, the text of the third act has been written in or about 1874, and the basic 'jokes' of the denouement stem from that time. In this 1987 Munich production, I could only detect one local reference to 'Stadelheim,' the Munich jail. The role of the Vienna prison warden was played here by Franz Muxeneder, probably a 'Class B' performer. Excellent performers in this role were three Austrian 'A+-Class actors such as Joseph Meinrad at Covent Garden in London, and the Viennese actor, director and opera director Otto Schenk, as well as the Viennese actor Hans Moser. In a recent Munich New Year's Eve performance by the Bavarian State opera, the Munich actress and comedian Luise Kinseher played "Frosch." It is a tradition in many German-speaking cities to stage this operetta on New Year's Eve. As a native of Munich, I often wonder what our Munich comedian Karl Valentin would have made out of the "Frosch" role. In any event, wishing you many more delightful performances of this Strauss operetta!😀

There's an earlier production from the Wiener Staatsoper that was filmed in 1980, with Otto Schenk's stage design (also used here) that treats this scene better. The Austrian actor Helmuth Lohner plays the prison warden and is very convincing, making it seem far more convincing than this version. I also prefer the Vienna production on the basis of singers: Bernd Weikl is an absolutely irresistible Eisenstein, and paired with Walter Berry as Dr. Falke, it's genuinely hilarious. Lucia Popp I believe does a better job as Rosalinde, both acting and singing wise. Her voice is just unbelievably beautiful and her acting is very masterful. Also, unpopular opinion, but I believe Edita Gruberova played the role of Adele perfectly in the 1980 production. She's wonderfully over the top, portraying Adele as the naive and somewhat childish chambermaid that she is (at least in my opinion), and she sings her two arias with such perfection that it makes you want to applaud.

The Bavarian State Orchestra celebrates its anniversary of 500 years this year. The American conductor Kent Nagano, who was its chief conductor from 2006 to 2013 was literally in awe of this tradition. Along came a Western Siberian sweetheart named Kirill Petrenko who dared to put his stamp on this orchestra and succeeded so well that now he is chief conductor of the Berliner Philharmoniker.
