I would like you to explain why biodiesel / B20 is bad for a diesel engine. Biodiesel made from soybeans is good for your engine and it provides lubricity. Biodiesel does clean fuel system and when your first switch to Biodiesel you will need to change fuel filters more often. As biodiesel cleans the fuel system the fuel filters will get dirty quicker. I have experience operating semi-tractors and new and old farm tractors that run on biodiesel without any problems.

When I had a 2007 Jeep CRD, I stopped for fuel in Quincy, CA. The station had an antique pump for diesel. I had to go inside to activate it. The owner pointed out that that pump dispensed diesel fuel. I mentioned that the Jeep ran better on it. He couldn't believe that a Jeep ran on diesel. I said that well, you won't see much here as Cali won't approve these diesel Jeeps. Long story short, after filling my tank he was all agog to hear the engine. He was quite delighted! It's unforgivable that there are no universal standards for fuel, diesel or petrol (gasoline). Particularly for cars going between Canada, USA, and Mexico.
@patw52pb1
8 жыл бұрын
+Jason Carpp There is, in the US ASTM D975, most of Mexico uses ASTM D975 and a series of ISO testing standards, Canada CAN/CGSB-3.517 which mostly mirrors ASTM D975. By US federal law, all on-road diesel fuel sold in the US must be subjected to and pass a battery of standardized tests. Diesel fuel for US on-road use is subjected to the ASTM D975 Test Battery which consists of the following tests: ASTM D86 Volatility ASTM D93 Flash Point ASTM D97 Pour Point ASTM D130 Corrosivity ASTM D189 Carbon Residue ASTM D240 Heating Value ASTM D287 Density ASTM D445 Viscosity ASTM D482 Ash Content ASTM D524 Carbon Residue II ASTM D613 Cetane Number ASTM D974 Neutralization Number ASTM D976 Cetane Index ASTM D1298 Density index ASTM D1319 Aromatics Content ASTM D1500 Stability Color ASTM D1744 Absorbed Water Content ASTM D1796 Water and Sediment Content ASTM D2274 Stability Oxidation ASTM D2500 Cloud Point ASTM D2622 Sulfur Content ASTM D2709 Sediment Content ASTM D4294 Sufur Index ASTM D4625 Stability Long-Term ASTM D5001 Lubricity It is worth noting that these federal fuel standards are applicable to the fuel as it leaves the distribution terminal facility, after it is transported to the retailer it becomes the responsibility of state, county, local government to set and enforce fuel storage and dispensing regulations to insure the consumer receives fuel that meets the federal standards. Many times fuels are mistreated, adulterated and contaminated while in the retailer's possession. Water in retailer bulk storage tanks is a large issue globally. Water even in small quantities in diesel fuel is especially harmful, it degrades the fuel, promotes the growth of in tank bacteria, lowers cetane, increases the corrosivity, lowers the heating value, increases sediment and alters most every test parameter negatively. Water in the fuel and the bacteria is also responsible for in tank corrosion, premature filter contamination and plugging, pump fouling and line corrosion. Water in fuel also degrades the fuel's lubricity. Water contamination in the winter also contributes to fuel gelling and fuel/fuel/line freezing. Modern gasoline and diesel refining procedures and methods also contribute to fuels having a much shorter storage/shelf life. Most fuel produced today loses much of its volatile components and oxidation sets in within about 90 days meaning buy fuel where there are high sales volumes. Storing fuel in elevated temperatures, in sunlight or in vented containers accelerates the fuel's deterioration.

You waited that long before replacing the fuel filter?!?!?!?! Good grief, that’s horrible for your fuel system. Should be replaced every 24,000 km or 15k miles.

Thanks or posting this video. I just picked up a 2003 7.3 and I do not know the history of fuel treatments. cleaning the system, EDT, fix & eliminator I guess my question is where to start? I have had it to the shop and they say 2,6 and 8 injectors are not to perfection but I do not feel any hesitation.

Hello, thanks for the great video! I have a 2018 ED with just under 20K miles and live in the West Suburban area of Chicago. I was very interested in your comment about the crappy fuel in Illinois so sort of obvious you have first hand local knowledge. I have asked the dealer several times if there was any benefit to adding anti-gel or other additives and there stock response has been "FCA does not recommend the use of any additives". I believe they are simply trying to avoid any kind of liability or avoid going against "the corporate line". But I think your video has me convinced otherwise. I do have one question, are you aware of where better quality fuel can be obtained in Illinois, that is, would you recommend a Thornton's over a Speedway or is there a particular fuel source you use? Thanks very much.

Couple questions: 1) do you also use Hot Shot's Secret HSS32Z Stiction Eliminator when you do oil changes? If so does it work well the Pennzoil 550042833-6PK Platinum Euro L Full Synthetic Silver 5W-30 Motor Oil Lubricant 2) do you also use Power Service 01016-09 +Cetane Boost Diesel Fuel Supplement in the winter time along with Hot Shot's Secret HSSEDT16ZS Everyday Diesel Treatment . Thanks

1) No need for the stiction eliminator on this engine it has common rail fuel.2) I use the power service product you have listed in winter months exclusively as it contains cetane boost too. Only when temps will consistently be below 30 degrees though.

Power Service is junk. This stuff gummed my injectors pretty bad. As soon as I switched to Hotshots stuff my engine came back to life. But it's cool you can waste your cash on snake oil Wallmart crap. The dealership is going to love to take your money when you need new parts put in.

Hello, I have 14000 Miles on my 2016 Ecodiesel And will be changing my fuel filter at 15000. I just ordered the Hot shot Diesel extreme clean and boost. Do you recommend me to use this product before I change my fuel filter or after I change my fuel filter, I do not know if it matters but I figure it my dirty up my new fuel filter if I do it it afterwards? Thanks, Bill
@spartancj1

bill blackwell use it after reason this is your filter already is filled with contaminants and if you go and have the system cleaned that filter isn't going to capture the gunk like a brand new filter would.

Good educational videos man, love it! I just bought brand new 2016 Ram 1500 ST quad cab Eco diesel, haven't done oil change yet watched your oil change video and bought same oil with filter from the link you posted, will be changing it this weekend. I put 3300 miles on it in 3 month should I start using EDT? or any other product any suggestions? I use my truck as a daily commuter in city only 6-8 miles a day, I do drive it on a freeway twice a week, weekend only (going out fishing, hiking e.t.c between 80-150 miles on a freeway with highest speed 70mph. haven't towed anything yet, I always pump diesel from Safeway in CA. Thanks for great videos!

I own a 2015 eco diesel, have had it for about 2 months (bought it CPO) i just did my egr maintenance and today i am doing my fuel filter 44K miles on it and it was never done. I will be looking at hot shot products to help my fuel system. If i can not find hot shots brand is there any other brands that you would recommend?
