Almost 4 years ago I saw some of your coffee talk videos sitting in a highschool class. Decided to go to school and get an associates in heavy truck technology, now working for a dealership, making a good honest living and Im not even old enough to buy alcohol. Thank you for being a part of inspiring me. Now 2 years into the trade I finally had my first breakdown today, guy had me testdrive a truck he thought he fixed and the turbo locked up on I-70.

Any advice for a diesel tech in his first semester😅 I got offered an apprenticeship with ascendence trucks due to me having automotive experience but I’ve heard good things about septa should I just take whatever experience I can get now?

I wanted to be a heavy diesel tech but classes were full and there was a wait list for the next class 18 months away. I went through automotive course, went to dealerships then to forklifts and just got hired on to a Caterpillar dealership. It took 6 years but i made it. Not everyone has the same path, just dont give up if its what you want.

For the 1st 2 questions my answer would be to be curious. Blue collar work requires mental and physical agility. If you can handle that you can do anything 🍻

20 year old here, i've been going to school for diesel mechanics and landed a job in the industry with still a year of school left to go. Work at a dealership now and learning all I can but man the pay is not it, $19/hr is not worth what I work on but I guess you gotta start somewhere. That's the biggest downside that i'm facing right now is the pay, not enough for me to grow my collection of tools and save some money. Plus its flat rate, not a fan of that either but it is what it is for that. Any tips on growing my income as a technician? I'm currently trying to get my ASE's as my company pays $0.25/cert and there's 8 of em.

Become a service writer...lol Then you wont make it becuase you have a heart and know what really needs to be fixed and dont lie about stuff.

That's what happened to me. I tried to be a service advisor, lasted like 2 months. Absolutely hated it. All the other advisors and supervisor were snakes who would steal your work or customers. You have to lie to customers to make any money. Couldn't do it
