1:56 The true inspiration for the calculator is the Omron 86. Braun recoloured it to be sold as ET11, and then put it in the hot-wash allowed by LCD technology to get to the ET33 that is often showed as reference for Apple. But they were clearly just improving on the design language this Japanese calculator maker created.

Rams says that Apple is one of the few companies that abides by his principles but I'm pretty sure Apple designs their iPhones to only last for a couple of years these days.

technically, yes, the object itself looks and functions in a way though, that is really universally understood I think and modern apple products fit any home. Design is the one thing they definitely got right.

It's funny that he says nationalism is terrible. There's this interesting sort of ideology justifying his approach to design that covers up how useful it has been in the process of globalization. The movement that Bauhaus was most opposed to was the arts and crafts movement, which was very focused on the integrity of the laborer. The influence of the Rams approach to design is most evident in Apple products, which effectively erase the visibility of the laborer, allowing plenty of room for the laborer's exploitation. This approach to design is not innately "good", but has a hidden dark side. And with Apple's economics of planned obsolescence, the noblest aspect of Ram's philosophy is erased.
