As someone with IBS it's always so weird to me when people talk about "eat and do this for a healthy gut." It's too individual. For example, I cannot drink coffee at all. Most high fodmap foods are actually trigger foods for me BUT I can eat literal cups of raw kale and be fine. But a single spinach leaf will destroy me. Keep track of what you're eating and how it makes you feel and go from there 🤷♀️

Yes! Half the general recommendations would make me sick, but half the IBS-related recommendations aren't useful to me either (more or less). I can do about a half cup of beans once or twice a week--unless I'm already reacting. Coffee in limited amounts is usually fine. Fresca (I think the sorbitol) is an instant long-term trip to the toilet, but sugar-free gum is OK. Carbonated beverages (mostly fizzy water, but occasionally soda if I've gone wobbly) actually settle my system down--I burp a lot, but it really relieves pressure. Onions are usually OK, garlic is mostly OK when cooked fresh, but raw or garlicky leftovers have unpleasant consequences. I have to be really on top of what I'm feeling to eat well. I'm IBS-M and I think that's why so much is sometimes/maybe/usually. I literally can't get my sh*t together!

@@sadderdaze4197 I would also like an example, as yes it’s good to always do your own evidence-based research, but considering Abbey is an expert in her field as well as cites what other experts (such as sports dietitians) she consulted with for a video and always shows the study she is referring to on the screen, I’m not sure what she’s been “proven” to be incorrect about? I’m not sure what “best information” would be unless it is supported by multiple objective studies, and even then I don’t have degree to know I’m interpreting the studies correctly. The only thing I can think of is the fiasco where she misinterpreted someone’s lunch a few years ago, which was more an editing issue than anything. Alternatively, the whole “people hate intuitive eating” thing, which she has a disclaimer for specifically saying it’s not for everyone.

I went through a period of terrible gastritis where I had to cut a ton of food out of my diet. Dairy was one of the few things that DIDN'T irritate my stomach. Skim milk, low fat yogurt, and cottage cheese were absolute lifesavers and my main source of protein during that period. "The belly" situation is also very much dependant on the type of delivery (vaginal birth vs c-section) and whether it's your first child. Also, your age. I had my first child at 29, my third at 37, deliveries also differed, and I can tell you that after my first birth (vaginal and I was young), my belly was back to normal within 2 days, without any belts, special diets and lemon water. Now, my post-partum body nr 2 and 3, however was a completely different story and it took a long time and a lot of effort to get to somewhat normal. Thankfully, the older I get the more I understand that a flat belly is at the bottom of my life priorities. Enjoy your pregnancies and your babies, discover motherhood, it all goes by so fast!

Same! I had my first baby at 29 and gained 50 pounds. Losing the weight took a while but I got there in time to have my second where I gained 60 (eating during that pregnancy was fun and I fully enjoyed all the foods I craved). I lost that weight quite easily afterwards. Maybe it was because she was an easier newborn than my first and I didn’t have any PP depression compared to my first. Fast forward to surprise baby #3 at 37. I only gained 21 pounds the entire pregnancy but man, it was so difficult to find my new post-children body. I managed my expectations and I am no where near where I was before children but really don’t think that is realistic anyway. I agree- the flat belly is way low on my priority list and would rather enjoy my kids as they grow up. My goal is to model a healthy relationship with my body especially for my tween daughter. She’s definitely worth it ❤️

You girls are talking about flat bellies post partum...some people don't have flat bellies in the first place (like me)! 😁 On a serious note, you are right. We should not be held to unreasonable expectations to look "the same way" after birth. What mom wants to think about losing weight or looking a certain way when she has to wake up every 3 hours to feed her baby? Plus, stress can make it hard to lose weight, and there is plenty of stress when a new baby arrives. It makes me sad that society puts so much pressure on women with children, that some feel the need to get surgery.

I’m not really one to comment on KZitem videos but I just wanted to thank you for your videos. You along with Natasha Ocean have literally changed my life and healed my relationship with food. I used to struggle with weight loss and I so desperately wanted to be skinny but strong and muscular. I think I had orthorexia and when I got pregnant for the first time I was so upset about what I was craving. My morning sickness lasted for the entire pregnancy (but I didn’t throw up all that much) and I pretty much had to eat all the time to reduce the nausea. And I didn’t want to only ever eat salad...I wanted all the pizza and ice cream and sweets! So I was really down after having my baby when I hopped on the scales and saw that I was heavier than I’d ever been. I was breastfeeding so I thought I’d lose the weight really fast but I didn’t lose any. I tried intermittent fasting but nearly fainted on day 3 so gave that up straight away. Anyway, I got pregnant again when my baby was 10 months old the eating was the same. I needed food constantly just to feel ok but during this pregnancy I started watching you and Natasha. My husband had also taken up running and I was so desperate to get out and run too but I had SPD so there was no chance in starting that until I’d given birth. Once I had, I started intuitive eating and I found I liked to eat 3 big meals a day to feel satisfied. I didn’t weigh myself too much because I know that weight fluctuates throughout the month anyway but along with running 2-3 times a week (no longer than 40mins) I saw the weight coming off. I don’t want to talk too much about weight but basically I have gotten to the point where I don’t have to worry about what I eat. I have treats whenever I want. I’m not worried that pasta will make me fat or if I have a piece of cake then the “healthy lifestyle” is ruined. I’m nearly 30 pounds down and I didn’t even try! (This is over the course of a year, weight loss takes time for it to be sustainable!!) People at work asked me what I ate to lose the baby weight and the honest truth is that there has been no dieting. I eat whatever the heck I want! Its great!!!!! So thank you for these videos. Sometimes I start to feel like my old ways are trying to sneak back in but your videos help me to keep it real and stop worrying about calories and all that junk! I used to work out twice a day and eat separately to my husband. I didn’t spend much time with him because I was so consumed with the “it’s not a diet, it’s a lifestyle” mentality. I used to feel sad when I would think back to how “healthy” I was because I felt like I had failed. But really I hadn’t failed at all. Seriously, I can’t thank you enough. Eat more food guys. It’s nice to feel full and have energy. Especially when you have kids to chase after 😂 I don’t let what I eat make me feel guilty anymore and it’s amazing. Thank you for everything 🥰

Contrary to diet culture/wellness influencers, I struggled with the most digestive issues when I was under fuelling. I have IBS, but the biggest trigger is simply not getting enough food. Bloating can be a sign of a gastro issue, or food intolerance, but it can also be a result of inadequate fuel. I wish we would encourage more abundance in our diets, as opposed to focus on elimination and restriction as a “cure”.

Hi Abby! I’m on a weight loss journey after a past of orthorexia and binge eating. I made a pact to myself to let go of my restrictive habits as they totally damaged my mental health, but then went 0 to 100 and starting binge eating multiple times a week which then negatively effected my blood pressure; so weight loss is now the goal again. In fear that I would go back to my old ways I’ve been watching your videos and you have given me so much hope that happiness and health can happen at the same time! Super excited for balanced meals and great mindset. Thank you so so much. You are saving lives 🖤

I gotta ask, how do any of you feel satisfied after a smoothie? I've even made the "balanced" ones, full of fat, protein and fiber, and might I add, high calorie, and I am hungry an hour later, I don't even feel satisfied after I drink it. However, I can make some bacon, eggs and a side of fruit and not feel hungry for hours. Need something to chew I guess.
@emmacaldwell-dumouchelle3937

I’m never satisfied from a smoothie on its own. But if I add two slices of toast with some avocado, peanut butter, some cream cheese, that hits the spot.
@ThingsILikke

I have one every day and it’s how I get enough fiber. I put one banana, a little over a cup of frozen fruit, almond milk, a cup of Greek yogurt and a really good amount of peanut butter and a tablespoon of cacao. It’s cheap and helps control my appetite for the whole day. The yogurt makes a big difference.
@t1m513

Yeah it’s the chewing aspect, or lack of. It’s one of many reasons I love smoothies (I have a small appetite and am in recovery from under eating), it’s an easy way to get an extra boost of everything. I think our bodies don’t register drinking and eating in quite the same way so it can take longer to feel the satisfaction of a beverage. You could try adding oats into it for more ‘bite’.

@@sintara8442 that's not true. Many common digestive disorders display 'leaky gut' as a symptom (i.e coeliac disease) but leaky gut in and of itself is not inherently life threatening. One thing to note about lemon water - as well as not actually having any benefits over normal water, it can increase the risk of toothwear! So I looked up the Built Bars that are being promoted in this video… mostly because I don’t like anything with tons of chemicals or worse yet, sugar substitutes in the form of sugar alcohol… and that is precisely what I see in the ingredients. This is truly where I get annoyed with nutritionists. How can anyone promote so called healthy protein bars when they have erythritol which for some of us cause major digestive upset. Plus, you read the ingredient list and there isn’t one really proper natural ingredient…

I know this video is old, but I really wanted to comment on this. I'm currently studying to become a nurse. We've had lots of classes on nutrition and specifically on how to encourage patients to drink if they are dehydrated or need to flush their systems because of a uti etc - and we all thought that coffee would be a bad choice of beverage because everyone thinks it's a diuretic, but studies have shown that if you've had coffee regularly throughout your routine, coffee is in fact NOT a diuretic, and is now considered a part of your daily fluid intake just like a glass of water. :) So it's cool to hear this from Abbey as well. And in regards to the whole ..your poop turning toxic. I've had my share of clinical's and have dealt with lots of patients with pretty severe constipation. The only one's where we have a medical concern about the constipation being really bad, is if the patient is there to detox from alcohol. People who use alcohol usually suffer from constipation, and if they've had so much that they need to be hospitalized the constipation would help the toxins from the alcohol stay in the system, thus prolonging their need for treatment and it will put extra strain on the organs. So those patients are given loooooads of laxatives to move along the bowels :) But other than that.. It's fine, althought we always want to make sure that patients have regular bowel movements. But this is the only example I've had so far of constipation being really bad, potentially "toxic" to anyone. And I wouldn't even use the word toxic.

I used to watch her channel, but it’s been a lot of jumping around from one diet to the next. Some people carry more weight/fat in their stomach area. She is in no way, FAT per say, but that is the trouble area for her and no matter her diet change, sucking it in, or how high she pulls up her pants it’s there. She is also large chested which is carrying more fat in a close area to the tummy.

There is something wonderful about lemon water, IF it gets you to drink the water. However, I will take the coffee. Hot, leaded, and unadulterated. That probiotics stuff is good, but I'll stick with yogurt, pickles, real food. And, my collagen comes from gelatine and animal bones, real food. Something this poor mama needs, I think. I can't believe she isn't ravenous! Thank you for the reality check. I personally love the toddler plates and bowls, and chopsticks, because I can't eat distracted and use chopsticks. Child size dishes help me with portion control- a half cup of fruit, five to seven crackers. But I think her snack plate looked so tasty and healthy, even if maybe it needed a little more.
