A tremendously helpful video for making a coherent picture out of Deleuze’s thought. The links made to Empiricism and Subjectivity was very insightful. Cheers!

Thanks from France ! I'm working on a paper about Deleuze's approach to learning and its very important for me to have access to this kind of clear synthesis of his ideas. You are not sacrifing the precision and the subtility of his thinking and its very hard to do. Im very grateful for your work, you can be proud !

At 6:40, that's an assertion in literary style, not exactly a solution. So is it correct to view Deleuze's metaphyiscs as synthetic a prioris, as logically presupposed in acts of representation, and thus not themselves 'identities'? And if so, does it turn out to be coherent?

One way is to read "Difference and repetition" in parallel, try to identify the themes and see how Deleuze develops them. The sheer force of habit will make them recognisable to you. Don't worry if you don't understand everything rationally at first, it'll come in time. It's a very deep philosophy, and also quite complex.

Deleuze’s “transcendental empiricism” has been a stumbling block in my gradual understanding of what he is doing … circa @08:20: “So experience is said to be transcendental when it is conditioned by space and time …” This seems to me to indicate IMMANENCE more than TRANSCENDENCE … and I’ve read enough Deleuze to know that “immanence” is an important term to understand. I understand that terminology can be more specific than common usage and understanding, but here the term “transcendental” seems the opposite of normal understanding, and more importantly for purposes here, as Kantian terminology (which seems to me to accord with common understanding). I.e., from Webster’s, meaning 1c: “in Kantian philosophy: being beyond the limits of all possible experience and knowledge.” If someone can help me untangle this, it will greatly appreciated!

The term "transcendental," as used by Kant, is different from "transcendent." It doesn't imply "being beyond the limits of all possible experience and knowledge,” but rather "the condition of possibility," which refers to the notions that already exist in one's mind, transforming 'noumenon' into 'phenomenon'. These notions are a priori and include categories such as quantity, quality, relation, and modality. In contrast, according to David Hume and John Locke, the mind is more like an empty box. Deleuze changes the term 'idealism' to 'empiricism' to emphasize that the mind is more like an empty box and is also entirely influenced by Kant's 'noumenon', or as Deleuze calls it, 'substance'.

Would you mind speaking a little bit slower in your future videos? I love this one, and you definitely wrote a good script, but with the language Deleuze uses it gets a bit hard to follow when you speak so fast. Still, thanks for this one!
