This is the most succinct expression of "Tell me you have been to Japan without telling me you've been to Japan" I have ever come across! 😂😂😂😂 I want to move there. Americans are (not all, but primarily) awful humans who are unbelievably selfish. They fit in one of two categories of selfishness: they're either (1) lazy and immature and think the world revolves around them. They believe they shouldn't have to exert any effort whatsoever to attain the things everyone else has. You know, from working and earning the money to purchase them. 🙄🙄🙄🙄 or (2) they're egotistical, grandiose, materialistic, judgemental and superficial. It's not fun here anymore.

Took my wife to Japan when she was pregnant with our 1st son about 15 years ago. She had never flown before and got very air sick. Lots of throwing up. The Japanese crew treated her like a sweet little baby... Holding her her hair back, constantly checking on her and bringing her refreshments, talking very sweetly to her. The American staff (when we transferred) put rubber gloves on and basically trough a vomit bag at her saying that they couldn't really help because its not sanitary. They looked genuinely disgusted. I love my country but I was super disappointed by this and realized how far our culture has declined.

Japanese service is top-notch for anything. We got a cat from a pet store there, and poor thing got sick a few days later. Took him to a vet and they tried for nearly a week to save him. The pet store refunded the purchase price, paid for the vet fees, reimbursed for the insurance we didn't even purchase, and like half the store (similar to a Walmart but better) was lined up bowing as my husband left. At a craft store, my kid broke something we were going to buy. They apologized to US that it was the last while they cleaned it up. They then went to search for another in the back after we moved on. They found us in a different department of the store to get it to us. The airport there was so clean and quiet. All the staff there was friendly. 2 years there broke how we view service in the U.S.

Pets life is not guaranteed but when pet shops sell them, you don't know the state of the mother cat and how many times she's gotten pregnant and the results is the offspring. Kittens being in poor health could be due to a lot of reasons but one of the reasons is separation from mother and breeding itself. It's all nice that the pet store refunded the amount and paid for the cat but all that money could have been spent helping and adopting a stray cat from Japan that needed a home or medical attention.

I recently flew with United with my husband and baby daughter. When we checked in, the tickets listed my husband as the baby. Then for our other flights on the trip, there was no ticket for my baby, and then 2 tickets for 2 babies. I thought I had royally messed up when booking, but then I checked my booking receipt. Nope...2 adults and 1 baby, with me and my husband as the adults and my daughter as the baby. I have no idea what happened.... Luckily, basically every service person I spoke to was super helpful and fixed everything, and we still made it to our destination.

Here I am from Latin America, the service in the US is considered amazing to us and usually entirely “too much”. In most of South America the people working in service will refuse to say hello or bye and usually not make eye contact. In fact eating right in front of you, using their phone or if they’re outside smoking a cigarette is completely normal. Don’t expect a smile, unless they literally want to go on a date with you. I’m very profesional, like you smile thru the phone and treat everybody with the out most respect but humans are the fkn worst man. One out of ten ppl calling was normal the rest were rude ass ppl talking down to employees, acting stupid and giving us attitude over us doing our job. Customer service employees should be getting pay way more bc that’s one of the hardest job to do. People wake up feeling miserable and call to complaint about the pettiest shit ever and take all their frustration on the poor employees who’s are getting paid 10 an hour at an electric company. And ppl are calling them screaming on their ear taking down to them over the pettiest thing. Every single person that calls any company FOR HELP with their stupid shit need to respect the ppl they’re talking too. They work for the company, they’re not your personal assistant and they’re not your slaves. Humans in general need to be respectful.

@ThePrincessfunk yes, people are crazy and many have different reasons, but everytime an upset one yelled at me, I never took it personally because I knew why they were upset. I would listen, empathize, and said I would do everything in my power to help. That always deescalated everything. Now airlines?? These people ARE stressed to 100% and maybe customer service needs more patience because I can only imagine how crazy they would get traveling to be somewhere. It's like those dumb women who turn bridezilla just because they are gonna get married. Stress does some awful stuff to people. I've been on both sides. If I were to take on heavy cust. svc again, I would take some anger mngmnt classes and maybe look into those people who speak to the ones who takes hostages. Customer service is hard, even cashiering hahha, but in my experience there's been only a few really bad ones, which I would have to go to my supervisor and have them deal with it. I don't know, it's helped me to have compassion for people. Really rudes ones are just plain rude and just try to dispatch them as quickly as possible hahhah

When I flew with JAL, it wasn't the cheapest ticket price, but it was 100% worth it - and it probably worked out cheaper than the budget airlines. Everything was included in my ticket price - food, unlimited drinks, a generous baggage allowance, etc. Also, when there was a delay on the way home, they paid for *everything* (none of this "you have to pay and claim it back later" nonsense) and I didn't have to chase anything. When they announced the delay, they also announced what they were doing about it. When I looked at what was covered by the cheaper tickets from other airlines, it was a false economy - because I would have paid more with them for the ticket plus extras (food, baggage, etc), than I paid for my "everything included" ticket with JAL... And the service was a thousand times better! 😎 Safe journey to Japan - hope you enjoy your trip 😊

And Air New Zealand. They’re equally as nice as JAL workers but they have more freedom and that results in kind of a more unabashed niceness.

Look, as a Frontier agent, I do NOT want to charge you all those extra fees, and anytime I can avoid doing so, I will. I always apologize for having to just do my job, I just wish folks would be kinder is all. If you’re as emotional as me, you either get so beaten down by being yelled at that you become bitter and uncaring like everyone else, or it drains you emotionally to the point of quitting (Likely the latter for me, but I’m still new, so we’ll see). I will agree that Korean Air is just a new level of classy, I love it!

I’ve been all over the world and my least favorite airport BY FAR is Shanghai. Customs can take 3+ hours, they have 3 different layers of security checkpoints with very strict rules just to transfer, and I always get screamed at in Chinese at each one. One time, I even witnessed them scream at an elderly woman for walking too slow for them. American airports are a pain, but it could be worse.

Yeah, my reverse culture shock of coming back to the States after years in Japan was 1000X worse than any initial culture shock I had moving to Japan. The States are roooough in comparison, people have no more manners, patience, etiquette, anything left here anymore. 😢
