@@TheLadyGrimm Or that next time they'll become more brutal. Killing the sirens Ody did the opposite of what made him be saved by Circe, and even she aknowledged the whole "kindness brings kindness" thing. What Ody did to the sirens was like if he had threatened the Nymphs and, after his man being released, he killed them anyway. I think Circe would have turned into a pig any other man she may have encountered until she lived. EDIT: One of the new comments made me take notice that Athena proved my point. It's not like the Sirens need to be so much more cautious than they already were... they were literally so careless they were in fishnet's range. So next time they'll just stay far enough from the ship and drown anyone all the same. Plus they'll probably see the beeswax trick coming if someone wants to use it. So here goes the whole usefulness of killing them I guess. I hope nothing bad happens to Telemachus the day he is gonna travel through open sea.

@@loonelytoon6523Not really, she was being optimistic, but she didn't believe kindness begets kindness, because that's what's presented as her motivation to be "evil." It's why Odysseus uses her example in Monster. You can see this as well in the last lines of There Are Other Ways. Maybe one day, the world will need a puppeteer no more *Or maybe one day, the world will need a puppeteer more* She was doing it for a chance, being optimistic thinking about "maybe this'll pan out well, maybe kindness in this one situation is worth it," but she also, being pragmatic, knows the world is cruel. She's not saying the world is kind, but she's giving it a chance to be for Odysseus, for his and Polites' philosophy to be correct. Maybe this one time the world will be kind to them. Of course we know it wasn't, but she was giving it a chance. It wasn't a kindness begets kindness moment, it was more of.. "I respect you for keeping this philosophy and I hope you keep it, so I'll help you." It's the equivalent of an old man (because yeah, Circe is definitely centuries older than Odysseus) giving the younger generation hope, even if it probably won't work out in the end.

@@ryan.c.s I'm not sure what you mean as her motivations for being evil: that she thought being unkind deserved unkindness? (which, yes, I can see that being an appropriate description of her "previous" attitude) For everything else I can only say I agree, but that I also had given for granted I was semplifying the line "maybe showing one act of kindness leads to kinder souls down the road". My point was that being kind it's just as a bet as being ruthless (that's why I began with "or"). There is no guarantee you'll met kindness in the first case just as there is no guarantee you are gonna play safe in the second. My opinion is the first works more on the long period (the sirens won't become more ruthless and kill every other father that tries to go back to his wife and son), the second on the short (Ody doesn't have to worry about the sirens anymore and can go home safely). And yes, given enough time, both of them will eventually fail. I guess being humans naturally shortlived and shortsighted the second tends to be the best option anyway. But what I was saying is not that you should have opted for kindness because it would have inevitably benefitted you. I was saying that opting for ruthless isn't without consequences. Is what makes "the world" ruthless in the first place, after all.

@@ryan.c.s Circe absolutely believed kindness brings kindness, and that unkindness brings unkindness. She's basically the middle ground of the whole Ruthlessness vs Open Arms, as she is balanced. She spared Odysseus because he was humble in asking her to let him return to his wife, she would kill any man she perceived as a threat to her nymphs. Still, the point is that being ruthless or being kind won't get you the same results every time. Odysseus could maybe be preventing the Sirens from bringing more harm to sailors, or he could be motivating them to be even more brutal. Either way, I doubt he cares
@loonelytoon6523

@@yay29823I'll add that not even Circe cared so much. She would have killed Ody until he was humble to her, and they got there only because he gained the upper hand. While when it comes to the sirens is "begone thots, dunno why you eat people instead or fish but we assume you are evil, and even if letting you die painfully was too much I would have still slit your throats". Ody was just more ruthless than her cuz he had the upper hand again but didn't gave the same treatment he received, even if he didn't knew more about the sirens than Circe knew about him.

DAMN, this is amazing. I loved your suffering animatic, but this simply blows it out of the water! The siren! design is pretty cool, and the expressions for all the characters are simply amazing! Odysseous being rather sadistic during the whole thing was awesome, his expressions portraying his words. I mean, when he describes how he made a plan to beat the sirens and stretches it out into a full song he sounds like a disney villain, and his face at 2:59 isn't really helping. Unto other characters, I love the crew, how smug they are at the begging and how they freak out at the end when he tells them to chop off their tails and throw them into the water, probably a combination of both how brutal it was and how hard cutting them in half would be. You beautifully portrayed the expressions of all the Sirens. I adore the tonal dissonance between the character of Siren! Penelope in the suffering animatic(I rewatched it after watching this) and how hateful she is towards odysseous for not only attacking her but murdering, and quite brutally at that, what I suppose is most likely her family, especially how she went for cool annoyance to full hatred around 0:45 . The Sirens comforting the child-siren, who I suppose played the "daughter" back in suffering, was heartbreaking, especially with how odysseous shows not a shred of sympathy neither in his words or body language, perhaps that's what freaked out the crew. The quick flashback in Troy and with Polyphemus is absolutely amazing at helping show the character arc odysseous had in Epic(Even if I would say Odyssey! Odysseous was the monster rawr rawr rawr all the way back in the Iliad having read both of those things). For the reasons stated prior, the slaying of the Sirens was an emotional scene, and Odysseous shooting the Siren due to not wishing to make the same mistake twice is an awesome finishing touch. *claps*

I just said they cannot be judged differently from an animal whose territory you trespass, and that Poseidon makes a shitty job protecting his "subjects". Plus, we don't really know if they needed to be killed for the crew to leave unharmed (bounding and throwing them into the sea would have bought enough time). Epic universe is so fucked-up the Sirens probably get 🍇 by the Tritons who then leave them to take care of themselves and the female children

I think the Sirens would’ve been cooked either way since in Mythology, if sirens weren’t able to trick sailors into the waters and drown, they themselves ( the sirens ) would jump in the water and drown themselves and turn into rocks.

The spine is in the middle in this I think it would have been more accurate if it was closer to the back but then goes into the middle in the fish part of the sirens and the ones the the Odyssey had wings But it’s still a very good animation

Which one are you referring to? Animatics using the same song will inevitably have similarities, ESPECIALLY when they follow a specific story like the ones in Epic. I guarantee it's just a case of inspiration if anything at all.

I mean yeah, it's the same song, plot and characters. It is bound to have many similarities
