Omg i'm seeing so many similarities to the hospitality industry and how restaurants operate bahaha Tracy, you're like the Chef back of house that does all the prep and decorating then dings the service bell to have your work be taken away by a server (FDA) who's under the instruction of a functions and catering manager (funeral director)

Well funny you say that Cas, but the funeral industry here in Queensland falls under hospitality 🤷♀️ similar rules and similar pay 🥴 have a lovely day 💚💚

Interesting contrast between what happens in a small company where a handful of people multitask and a large organisation who have more resources. Good to hear about the ethos at McCartney Funerals. The community engagement aspect of couse one effect is to promote and generate business but an effect is that people in the community also benefit. Here's my question. How's the male FDA who helped Tracy with dressing on the busy day doing? The guy who said "Tracy I'm more familiar with taking bra's off than putting them on" How do you get the necessary experience I wonder? Say to your date the next morning "Here let me help you dress! No it's fine you just lie still leave everything to me!" 😊 Love the idea of the 3d goggles for people with dementia. There's a memory cafe runs twice a month in our community they play music. It would be great to get some pictures and news clips and show them. Our library service has a huge archive maybe they could help. Great video thanks😊

Thanks Steve, Scott is doing well not sure how he is going with placing bras back on 🤪 we worked together in the coprate company together, he's no longer there all the best people have left. The idea of the virtual goggles came from me as I stole the idea from the nursing home my dad was at in the UK just before I lost him a few years ago. A guy there come every month we the goggles to give every resident the experiences that they miss in life and the dementia patients including my dad were just brought back to life in them moments it was priceless to see 💚💚 my dad got to go back on one of his Navy ship when he was in the Royal Navy, made me cry with joy. Take care Steve 😊💚

Tracy, are all FDs solely doing funeral work, or is it any like there are in uk, especially rural areas where they are joiners and funerals were just a sideline from the days when local joiner made the coffin.

Hi David, not sure what it's like in the out back rural areas of Australia, but generally FD are that FD I dought some could even hamer a nail in a coffin theses days 😜 only kidding sure lots of FD have other skills too. Most the FD that U know all work full time doing only funeral work. Take care and have a great day 😊💚

I realize this is not really a mortician question, but here goes anyway. After the service, in the states, if the deceased is a member of a church or certain organizations, members of those groups help (generally, in all the funerals i attended)provide and serve the 'lunch' . Is it the same in Australia?

Question! What happens/ have u ever had a request to not have someone bagged up / face covered ect . For example say someone had a fear of being stuck (even if they’re dead) they don’t want to be bagged up they don’t want their face covered what would u do?
@Areyoudyingtoknow

Hi Claire, I have had this request a few times, when doing transfer from a home. What we do then is wrap the body in a sheet but leave the face out, simple and helps the family in there request while we can still cover most of the body. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚

Very interesting. This video answers a lot of questions that I had. Do the funeral director, embalmer, etc. go the the same kind of mortuary school ? Or, are the educational programs completely different ?
@Areyoudyingtoknow
Жыл бұрын
Hi Anne, here in Queensland Australia we don't have Mortuary schools as the industry is not regulated here 🤦♀️ that means anyone can open up a funeral home and say they are a mortician, funeral director or transfer the deceased. It is madness and most funeral home here have been campaigning for years to have the industry regulated to keep out dodgy companies. Most funeral jobs are on the job training here. To be an Embalmers it is a 3 year course at 1 of the only 2 Embalming schools we have in Australia, but you need to be a mortician first as you need a mortuary to work out of. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚

Do you cut the clothes when dressing them
@Areyoudyingtoknow
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Steve, Some times I will do that for instance if clothes are to small we will ask the family if it's ok to cut them or would they like to supply a larger size. Also if we get someone who is extremely large we will advise family is safer to cut the clothes as to try and move the person to much (for health and safety reasons) thank you for your question take care 😊💚

So a funeral director and a mortician isn't the same thing?
@Areyoudyingtoknow
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Meagan, no not normal. The funeral directors is the person who meets and organises the funeral then directs the funeral services making sure all is going to plane that was discussed in the arrangement. A mortician works is the mortuary preparing the deceased body for the service but normal does not arrange the funerals or attend them. But however some smaller companies have 1 person doing everything from arranging to prep to been on the service. Thank you for your question take care 😊💚💚

Great question Natalie, often the funeral director will do the arranging with another member if staff to assist, that way they can get things just the way they want them.😁
