I do it differently, I pull rubber through the bead completely , using threading tool . so it is a single piece, and have 2 loose ends

I tie mine to replicate a bass jig with a skirt and some I will put a small willow blade on it

Dave Gibson the squirmie material is pretty buoyant so we use as large a bead as possible. Typically on the squirmie it’s a 3.5mm maybe even 4.0.
