Hi Jeff! thank you for your reactions! Okay, that's why I love C D D# E G G# A C because major penta and part of minor penta or F myxolydian or in it... also 6th dimished is suggested, I love this scale, it is Old school it isn't used so much in theory, but for me it has the blues flavour

Thanks for these videos. You put forward many very insightful ideas that are extremely helpful and practical. Your manner is also appealing to me - no showing off but, instead, trying to truly help jazz players out there.

Another great video, Jeff. Hitting that characteristic pitch (my name for it) has always been a thing for me, but you spelled it out so well.

I love it. I think many great players do something like this in their own way, but I've never heard anyone actually talk about it and teach it. Glad you like the way it was laid out. I, of course, want to be sure that it's very clear.

Wow! This video really made it clear for me. I'm new to improvising so I typically panic and play too many notes. Now I will work on playing the right ones.

Wonderful! So glad that this idea makes sense to you. I really think that many of the best, greatest players do something like this "in the back of their minds." Maybe they aren't even aware they are doing it, but it's such a great tool. Spend some time with it, and let me know how it goes for you.

Once again an important concept distilled to its essence and well-stated. So good to hear that "wrong" notes can actually be right. As always, thanks.

Haha! Weird, right? The "wrong note" is what actually gives us the ability to nail a chord change. You definitely "get it." Thanks for the note.

also, F G G# A C C# D F contains the notes to cover A7 Dm7 and even the bebop approach of Oscar Peterson with E7 A7 is to nailable

Jeff, where the hell were you when I was learning to play??? The way you explain things just cuts straight to the point and simplifies things in a way that just makes sense. Thanks. :o)

Thanks for the kind note. You know, I could have used me too! I took about 35 years figuring this stuff out, and still do every day. Happy to share it. I hope we'll be able to work together one day at www.JazzWire.net. That is where we can really make the study personal, and introduce a lot of direction. Hope to see you there!

@@JeffAntoniukEducator Honestly mate, apart from being a kick ass saxophonist, you're an amazing teacher. Thank you on behalf of myself and the rest of the guys/girls on the channel.

Very awesome for, like talking, to people, changing topics on the fly, yet getting your point across, and being absolutely being inderstood, resolution, don't know if that makes sense.

It does indeed. You just need to know THAT ONE NOTE (or turn of phrase, in conversation) to get your point across.

I have a friend who can really play the gut bucket blues. He was born in Harlem. Got to sit on Ella Fitzgerald's lap as a baby.. had Howlin Wolf pick him up and say.. what you doin here boy ! I jam with him once in awhile. He won't go to the jazz jam. He says they play too many notes. And he tells me I over play... whatever that means. I figure there is a time and place for slow, fast, loud, quiet... and so on. You just demonstrated how to milk a note for all it's worth.. like a blues player do.

Well, a blues player is going for a very different aesthetic than a jazz player. Both styles are great, but they are also pretty different from each other. I'm sure your friend would also say that Bird and Clifford Brown and Oscar Peterson overplayed too. He isn't wrong, but he sure isn't right either!! I'm going to file this one under "everyone is entitled to their own wrong opinion." :) :) :)

@@JeffAntoniukEducator Ha ha Ja ja... he does love Coleman Hawkins and Ben Webster. Thanks to a softer reed and lots of practice I can whisper with my horn now- that soft breathy thing Ben does.

C# face.!

You know, Gerry, I have a very distinct face for EVERY single note on the horn. That said, I've found that I give myself terrible face cramps if I use them all, all of the time. It's very demanding. In this video, I was just doing the "C# face," for obvious health reasons. Also, I am a black belt in "smart ass comments." FYI!! :)
