It was a real treat to work on this DPI HighLite 330-3D-HC (High contrast). The owner had purchased a good quality lamp assembly but there was possibly a defect in the UV coating or glass thickness/orientation(maybe reversed?). Either way the primary lens inside the Illumination module cracked and ruined the picture. The manufacturer of the lamp assembly agreed to cover the cost of the repair. In the meantime the company thickened the glass and beefed up their QC process. So far this is the only instance that I am aware of that this particular model lamp has done this.
Hopefully it's the last because I used the last illumination assembly in the world...
I did try to re-use some lenses out of some older scrap projectors I have. I even had an older DPI that had a very similar design and an ancient Mercury HD(teardown/scrapping video upcoming). None of them worked out. The lenses were all close but not enough.
Digital Projection's Service/parts department really came through for me. I can't thank them enough and can only say nice things about their service. Keep them in mind if you need ultra high end projectors. Their modern laser stuff is amazing. I would buy one if I had a $30,000 budget. They are not cheap, but after working on this one, I see its a cost that matches the quality in both performance and construction. You can find older models used for a more reasonable price.
One of my 4 legged helpers was around for some of it.
