Dillon Meek was elected mayor in the depths of the COVID-19 pandemic and has guided Waco through one of the most transformational periods in its history.
However, he’s quick to say that he couldn't have achieved any of those milestones on his own. Meek said he served Waco alongside a great city staff and great council members, and those relationships were the greatest joy he experienced as mayor.
At 6 p.m. Thursday, the council will swear in Meek's successor, Jim Holmes, who has served as the District 5 council member for almost as long as Meek has been on council.
First elected to the District 4 seat in 2015 at age 30, Meek said he didn’t really know what he was getting into at first. But at the end of an eight-year journey, he has no regrets.
“It's been a really fun season of positive transformation in Waco,” Meek said.
