Thank you very much, I’m learning a lot through your channel I also think there is another shorter way which is to use the quantity of the final cream (100g) instead of using an assumed quantity E.g.: 1. 90/100 * 100 = 90 g hydrocortisone Or simply 100-10=90 g (because it is w/w) 2. (90 g * 0.5 g)/100 g = 0.45 % however I’m not sure if this is applicable to all types of questions..

Thank you @om9ze for watching and for the comment. Your approach should work when one of the components you are mixing is a diluent and the concentration of the active ingredient is zero. However, when both components you are mixing have the active ingredient, you need to be caution using that approach. Hope this helps.

Thank you sir but the alligation method you used is complicated by bringing in unknown 200. I used 100% as upper and 0.5% as lower. got 9.5 and 90 parts respectively to give a total of 99.5 parts. Therefore 90parts/99.5 parts X 0.5% = 0.45%w/w. I hope this method is also ok?

Why did you solve for 100g at the end of alligation ?

Thank you Musa for watching and for the comment. The question is asking for concentration of hydrocortisone in the cream which is on a weight by weight basis (%w/w). The definition of %w/w is some quantity in grams divided by 100g. So that is where the 100g is coming from in the solution to the question. So when we solve for y that value is the percentage concentration. Hope this helps.

@@PharmaceuticalCalculationsEasy oh ok thank you. Also when you assumed it to equate to 200g can the assumption be to any mass so for example 100g?

@@musaa6029 Yes. You may assume any mass such as 100g.

Why 200? Where is 200 from?!!!

Thank you Elham for watching and for the comment. Regarding your question, since the total quantity of the cream was not specified we assumed a total quantity of 200 g to make the calculations easier. You may assume any total quantity (e.g., 100 g ) and arrive at the same solution. Hope this helps.
