The instrument is called Dombra. The song was a poem written by a man who was imprisoned and he was told that his wife had left him. His nickname for her was Daididau. Definitely a fan favorite song.

That is a dombra. The national instrument of Quazakstan. The song is from a letter written by a Kazakh poet locked up in a Soviet labor camp as a dissident in the 1920s when they told him his wife has found another man. He asks her who will I tell of my pain ?

That instrument is called a Dombra and it only has two strings. For your own personal interest, you can go to Gloria Wu's channel and get the backstory to this and some of the other songs Dimash sang on " The Singer 2017." I truly believe this is Dimashs' favorite song. At one of his concerts, he cried after singing it, and always includes it at every concert. Dimash is the master of pause for effect. This orchestra is far and away world-class. I watched some of the other performers on this show and enjoyed their music as well....but, none could touch Dimash.

This is one of his Favorite, and most Popular songs....sings it at every concert and the Audience joins in!!👌💗 He learnt it as a small Boy.... Thank you for this Today!! Perfect!👍👍👍👌👌👌🙏

Daididau is about the composition of Magzhan Zhumabayev, an exponent of Kazakh literature. When in 1928 he was sent to prison, and later sent to camps in North Karelia, Russia, Zuleikha his wife followed him, no matter where he was taken, she always found him and came to see him everywhere. She went to great lengths to get him released from prison in 1936, even asking the famous writer Maxim Gorky for help. During his prison term, Zhumabayev received the lying news that his wife had abandoned him, so Daididau was written as a lament for the lost love and suffering of the nation. But contrary to what he thought, outside his wife worked hard for his freedom and in 1934 his sentence was reduced and he returned to his home. Unfortunately, Magjan Jumabay was detained again in 1938 and executed on the 19th March of the same year. Dimash is a very proud Kazakh and this song is so special to him because is a traditional song and he dreamt about singing it before a large audience to show his culture and his country to the world. He was almost in tears. The instrumentation is beautiful, the dombra is the instrument he plays in the intro., every Kazakh has one in his home and Dimash’s grandfather is a master of dombra. Dimash loves traditional music and incorporates Kazakh instruments in many songs such as Samaltau version for the Tokio Jazz Festival kzitem.info/news/bejne/tqyDuJ-fkqdkfag

This is a song based on a letter by a famous Kazakh Poet and Dissident - working for Kazakh independence decades before the break up of the Soviet Union and the eventual formation of Kazakhstan as an independent sovereign nation in 1991. He was imprisioned and eventually executed by the regime. While in prison they lied to him and told him his beloved wife had deserted him for another. He died not knowing that his great love was prevented from seeing him, never gave up on him and spent all her time - at great risk to herself - travelling from one city and one official to another begging for his release. This song became something of an underground Anthem of the people and remains dear to Kazakh hearts. This performance on the Singer show is great, but Dimash's performance of this in his home country is breathtaking.

I love his Kazakh folk songs. I also love to see Dimash play the dombra! When he sings this in his concerts the audience sing the chorus with him. He loves it as his audience are from so many different countries, yet sing in his native language. This is so special for him, as we Dears (fans) love his Kazakh songs & he is very proud of his heritage & culture. He & his uncle did this arrangement of the song when Dimash was around 16 yrs old. He loves songs with a true story behind them. This is about a Kazakh poet who was imprisoned for speaking out against the powers of the time & while he was there he was mistakenly told that his wife had left him for another. I love the Kazakh folk songs so much. Thank you so much 😊🙏💞

Daididau is a protest song. In places where they cannot go on the march against acts of governments, protest songs take the form of sad songs to move people towards empathy with that suffering the unfair act so as to be able to make it know and not letting them forget. Magzhan Zhumabaev was a Kazakh poet and writer part of a group of Kazakh nationalists who wanted a new national government independent from their Russian overlords. He was arrested and convicted for the 10-year deprivation of liberty. To break him psychological and emotionally his captors lied to him that his wife, his love, to whom Magzhan called “Daididau”, had run away with a lover. So he wrote a poem “who will I tell about my sorrow and pain”. Finally Magzhan was executed by shooting on 1938. That´s why Dimash was so moved singing it.

This song is very sad and it tells about a very dark time in the history of Kazakhstan, not so long ago. To understand the song, I always advise to take the link from Gloria Wu’s channel as it shows the background story and also has English subtitles. In case you are interested: The Kazakh poet and writer Magzhan Zumabayev was sentenced by the Russian regime to 10 years in prison for conspiracy in 1929 and imprisoned. While in cusody there, he was falsely told that his wife had left him. If I am correctly informed he is said to have written the lines of the song in prison (as a letter to his wife), probably to express his deep sadness and despair over it. Although he was released in 1934, he was arrested again a few months later and was executed 1937. The lyrics of this song are so sad I could cry every time I hear it. It never leaves me unmoved. Even after hearing it so many times. I was at his concert in Düsseldorf and he sang this song with us Dears there too. This song is one he always performs in his concerts, plays the Dombra (a Kazakh folk instrument), and asks his Dears to sing along with him in his Kazakh language (he looks like a Kazakh Prince with his traditional clothing). Every Dear knows many of his lyrics in Kazakh and loves to sing his songs with him at his concerts. I find it incredibly impressive and wonderful how a single man manages to bring together so many people from meanwhile 150 different countries and continents with so many different views in politics or religion, with so many different languages in a common group and to celebrate peacefully together and to sing in his own language. You can see how proud he is of his country and how happy and moved he is when the audience sings with him🥰. I think the video you already saw is the full version. Did you see the story behind the song? Maybe you want to see it in privat. kzitem.info/news/bejne/1YWpnaahp2Vnf2U I wish you Merry Christmas❤️
