Hey Phil (with one L!) I wanted to drop a little info about the Service Center asset from the Japan Creator Pack: This is actually called a 道の駅 (michi no eki) in Japanese, and is actually found along countryside intercity roads. They serve as rest stops and are operated by the local villages and towns to showcase the local food and attractions as well as provide a place to chill and take a pit stop. They usually have space for a nearby separate gas station so you should add in one of the vanilla gas stations next to your SA. They also do include charging for EVs so you are on point with that. I lived in Japan for a long time and these michi-no-eki are always hidden gems that reminded me so much of the local mom ‘n pop joints here along the highways Stateside.

My vote is for zoned highway; feels more rural. Should the diner face the other direction? Towards the parking lot, not the service road, where people are walking in from. Also gives diners the great views of the water. Speaking of views, maybe a park next to the service plaza? That massive bridge would be something of a minor tourist draw: somewhere to buy your "I drove the Nicolet Bay Bridge" bumper stickers. Love the new series!

I can answer why it doesn't have gas pumps! From my visit to japan in 2019 most service stations were food and information centers, your gas stations were usually attached to a large parking area and some Convenience stores and gas stations were separate. So id recommend taking some gas station assets and adding a couple, which wont look out of place for a service station at an interchange. And with the wolves, why not name it Wolf Service Center, or something along those lines.
@dashboardfairy

This. Most Asian service stations are for F&B outlets, small pharmacies, general stores, info stations & souvenir stores (if near attractions) and most importantly, large public restrooms. Gas stations are attached near it, with a large parking area, car wash & drive-thru stores.

I think the main issue I have with modded builds like this is that it ironically feels like not as much really happens per episode as opposed to something like Verde beach. It feels like the stories that happen organically from working within the constraints of the system are more entertaining than using a dozen mods to make everything look juuuuust right, especially when a fair bit of that time seems to be you fighting with the mods to get what you want more than you seem to fight with the vanilla systems.

Great video as always. As someone who lived next to Lake Ontario for a long time, you probably would want some sort of natural barrier along the shore both near the service station and near the road. While preserving views is nice, having a wind break would be useful. It would also help absorb some of the lake spray in the winter that would create an ice problem and keep blowing and drifting snow to a minimum. Many of the houses on the lake shore would have some ice build up too once winter comes. For now lets enjoy summer. I'd be good with having a highway that's zoned. It is a hallmark of more rural areas. Thanks!

With Nicolet Bay being a peninsula much like Tampa/St Pete area I’m curious if in a video you can dive into what kind of disaster prevention cities such as the one you’re building would have in place or would develop. Tampa has somehow continued to be lucky regarding storms, some people even think there’s a Native American protection spell. Despite the luck the city hasn’t looked at the outcomes of Katrina/Irma/Ian etc and decided to do anything.
