Birds are dinosaurs… Crocs have the same breathing as birds, dont they?
@GarlicReturns

Just found this, they are actually half-way : "Similarly to most mammals in the Lungs of a crocodile there are alveoli and when crocodile inspires air the Diaphragmaticus, the liver and other organs move towards the tail allowing air to enter the lungs with a vacuum created. This is similar to the role of the diaphragm in humans. The opposite occurs in expiration. However in contrast with mammals crocodiles have a unidirectional airflow in their lungs similar to the avian (bird) respiratory system although crocodiles do not have air sacs where oxygen is stored in birds" mattpenfold.weebly.com/biology-blog/-respiratory-system-of-a-crocodile

3:00 - "...dinosaurs were able to remain the dominant species..." Dinosauria is not a species, but rather a whole clade containing many species. This is not a trivial point. Dinosaurs and mammals as groups have been around for hundreds of millions of years, and far longer than any single species has survived.

@@JulianPerez-zv6os You completely misunderstood my point, and yet still tried to insult me anyway. People make this mistake all the time, saying that "Dinosaurs were around for millions of years, but humans have only been around for a few thousand." That's not a fair comparison. Both Dinosauria and Mammalia have been around since the Triassic Period - some 200 million years - but any given species is only around for a couple million years. So, when people compare "people" to "dinosaurs," it's quite misleading, and I get tired of seeing it.

Synapsids ruled the earth long before dinosaurs ever appeared. The dinosaurs just crowded them out after the Permian extinction, and most died out except for cynodonts, which bided their time during the Jurassic and Cretaceous before reconquering the Earth as mammals after non-avian dinosaurs died out.

Who rules and who doesn't is hard to define. Today's avian dinosaurs have bigger brains than even the brainiest non-avian dinosaurs like raptors and troodonts, and today's mammals (carnivorans, elephants, cetaceans, and primates) have brains that are as big and bigger, making us the smartest group of animals ever. Both dinosaurs and mammals have risen to success with a number of adaptations, from warm-bloodedness to efficient respiration, to protection of the young. And both the dinosaurs and mammals have produced the biggest animals of all time: sauropods and whales, respectively. So, both dinosaurs and mammals have proven to have great staying power.

But let's be honest. Viruses are ultimately the ones pulling all the strings.
@PlainsPup
7 жыл бұрын
Well, viruses are just organic material and not even really alive. If you want to talk real dominance in terms of not only great endurance, but also sheer overall biomass, the bacteria win hands down. Bacteria have been around for over 3 billion years, and their combined mass dwarfs all other life. They also have great genetic diversity, and their metabolic diversity is greater than that of any other group. They may not have the great complexity, size, activity, or intelligence of dinosaurs or mammals, but they have always been the most abundant form of life on our planet. From that standpoint, it's always the Age of Bacteria here on Earth.

not just breathing, their vasculatory system, eyes, and in some cases sense of smell is more advanced than mammals. We mammals have earlobes so we got em there LOL some of us can better track where noises come from [though not humans, our earslobes are vestigial. Though some dinosaurs solve that issue like owls with their dish shapes head feathers, many other theropods may have done the same www.pinterest.com/pin/253116441528244430/

The placenta is smart but not unique to mammals. A few fish have placentas too. Which, I think, just demonstrates the great value of this evolution. But being SMALL and having inferior lungs is not great. Being small demands a high metabolism and that demands a lot of oxygen. Maybe it was slightly warmer and maybe our honoured ancestors developed a better lung than just adding a diaphragm. The lungs of mammals have a far greater inner surface than that of reptiles (including crocodiles). And our hearts make for a more efficient circulation. Not as efficient as that of the birds (the other recent group of archosaurs - the other being crocodiles) but efficient enough to ride a bike.

Slight correction cause you have the spirit but maybe not the whole picture. All birds are dinosaurs, but not all dinosaurs are birds. Dinosaurs (including birds) are reptiles, they just happened to evolve to live an active lifestyle extremely different to other reptiles which is why birds exist cause all of their birdy traits (warm-bloodedness, feathers, hollow bones, etc.) came from their non-bird dinosaur ancestors. Hope I explained it well and didn't overcomplicate it

perhaps they have it all wrong. dinosaurs may have descended from birds. some of the earliest bird fossils with fully developed wings magically appeared alongside early dinosaurs.plus it follows the pattern of optimization which is always a lot easier evolution wise than to have had to develop extra adaptations. its happened again in relatively recent times a few million years ago with the appearance of terror birds, and than the appearance of elephant birds, and ostriches.these are all examples of an optimizing change where the wings are gradually lost because they are no longer needed.

@@DiamondxReigns your theories are wrong due to several reasons. 1. dinosaurs lived in low oxygen environment, recent studies show oxygen levels from the Triassic to the cretaceous went from 10% to 15%, today we are at 21%. Saurischian dinosaurs had an airsac respiratory system which is more advanced then mammal lungs, thus it makes sense that they could thrive in low oxygen. 2. Difference in some dinosaur size and bird size has more to do with skeletal structure then with air. 3. earliest saurischian fossil predates the earliest bird fossil. In the triassic you had early theropoda, which were relatively small, and early sauropods in the form of sauropodamorphs, but you had no birds. 4. if birds came first it begs the question; where did birds evolve from? 5. birds are theropoda specialized for flight thus why they have no tail, but birds are 150 million years old and not once have they regrown a tail. If birds regrow a tail, they will be able to get big, but until then they will remain small, so it makes it hard to believe that in the Jurassic they could grown a tail relatively quickly again but for the next 150 million years they could not do it 1's if it is to their advantage as terrestrial megafauna.
