What's Michelangelo's David doing there?

Funny. It is just another roman statue of a naked man. And yes, Michelangelo was inspired by their art, so there must be a resemblance.

That Jupiter temple is still there, but it is surrounded by houses and buildings made of stone that were built later. There is no open space in front of it now. There is only a narrow pedestrian street. Also, most pillars in the palace did not survive, except the ones on Peristyle, the central part of the palace.

Were they knocked down?
@tombuddy100

@@atlantic_love No, houses were built (in the Middle Ages) between Peristyle and Jupiter temple, and around the temple. They are still there. There is only a narrow walkway between those buildings you can walk on from Peristyle to Jupiter temple.

What is a statue of Michangelo's David doing on the roof of Diocletian's Palace?

Beautiful work of restitution ! It shows us very clearly the turning point of styles between the classical Empire and what would become the "Byzantine" style.

No it doesn't. There aren't surviving rooftops, so these people just implement their own vision of what they looked like.

@@heliedecastanet1882 That's one building. Have you not looked around at all the other ruins? The ones missing their roofs? I love the work of archaeology (don't try the stupid "you against them" card with me), but revisionist history needs to be kept out of it. You have a good day, too.

Before you guys begin all over again with the "we art historians do care about accuracy" mantra, please let me ask you: if what you claim isn't accurate hasn't even survived, why are you people even throwing around criticisms about it?? So rude and hypocritical, really. Very disrespectful towards the work and dedication tirelessly funneled into this channel's mesmerizing content.

No ci sono disegni, Dell epoca imperiale romana, che rappresentano alcuni grandi edifici romani, come le terme, che sono arrivati fino a noi, ma ci sono anche testimonianze, scritte nel basso medio evo
