Dionne Warwick was 22 years old when she released her single "Don't Make Me Over", which was on her first studio album of the same name AND became her first hit song. She received her first Grammy at 28. Her most recent album was released in 2019 when she was 79. She will be 84 years old in December. She has recorded and released 40+ albums, not songs -- ALBUMS -- each of which has anywhere between 10-12 songs. She is a most-charted female singer with 80 songs that made the Top 100. Those are just a few reasons why she is a legend. She BECAME a legend because she is a talented and amazing singer. Incomparable. ❤

“That’s What Friends Are For” has a very special place in my heart. My grandparents, Big Ma and Papa, died exactly 1 week apart. Papa died on a Wednesday we had his funeral on Saturday and as we were crossing the train tracks to go to the burial site, this song came on the radio. Big Ma wanted to make sure Papa was put to rest properly. She died the following Wednesday. We had her funeral on Saturday and as we crossed those same train tracks to head to that same burial site, it came on the radio again. True story. I felt like my grandparents were speaking to me because no one else in my family remembers that. ❤🕊️❤🕊️

For any POC artists from her time to succeed was already a miracle!! but remember...for WOMEN of colour was a whole other level...Dionne, Patti, Gladys, Tina, Aretha, Chaka, Diana, etc., sang one take sessions, then performed EVERYTHING they could, raise families, and mitigate abusive men at home, and in the industry. Watching DIONNE in this, is a RICH Archive of knowledge, experience, and stories over half a century of dropping hits too.

What made Dionne a true marvel for that time was, it was the british invasion, groups was the thing for black female artists, soul music was kind of the popular music but she rose above it all, charting hits, selling millions of records and becoming not only US but a worldwide superstar. Im gonna quote gladys on this one, not exact words "She captured that area and locked it in, that nobody else could come in, because nobody could sound like Dionne"

Tank and J. Valentine, great job! Thank you for having this living legend, The Dionne Warwick, one of the prides of New Jersey and the U.S. on your platform. I love that she had this opportunity to share some nuggets with us and to receive this love and appreciation. Keep up the great work! And by the way, still waiting for Joe. Just thought I’d throw that in there…lol.

Sitting here watching this 😭😭😭😭. Between Barabara Streisand and Dionne Warwick, my Mother would sing their songs all of the time. Thank you guys. My Mom passed away in 2016, but I felt her a bit closer today watching this.❤
