Been there, done that. Literally. But David is talking as if "The Innovator's Dilemma" (Christensen, Clayton M.. “1 The Innovator ' s Dilemma.” (2010)) has never been written. It was the Business Book of the Year in 2011 and formed our understanding of the why and how of disruptive innovation - and how the mechanisms of the capital market hinder innovation. When the flaw of the system lies in the way investors can "play" with companies (I had the pleasure of experiencing KKR's slice & dice first-hand) then we, as innovators and intelligent people should not prolong the suffering of by trying to "transform an organization" against the will of the investors. Instead, we should leave as quickly as we can and start either our own businesses or find privately held companies where we DON'T have to waste our lives "transforming" something that inherently doesn't want to be transformed.
