I absolutely love your translations, song choices, and how thorough your notes are without "forcing" a single interpretation on the reader. The respect for the material really does come through. With how much the subbing/translating scene seems to have dried up, it's blowing my mind a little that someone this good came out of nowhere to put out this much content in three weeks.

Oh wow, thank you so much! It means so much to me, really. I started this, as you said, only a mere three weeks ago and I genuinely didn't expect all this warm hearted feedback. I feel super happy I found this way to get deeper into the material I love and be able to share it. From here on out I'll keep doing my best!

I appreciate the effort in re-arranging, changing, re-harmonizing songs, but I have to say, none of all the remakes they made can hold a candle to the originals, they managed to take out the best parts, at least what those parts convey. They are good songs on their own, but well... like the saying goes "who doesn't know god prays to any saint". Listen to the originals!

What does this song mean?
@xerodelacroix5552
4 жыл бұрын
Basically; a fictional story of an incestual relationship that resulted in a birth and loading up his sister/wife and son/brother in the car and driving it off a cliff. Death Valley is one of the deadliest places on earth, though he explicitly mentions water ans drowning, and Death Valley is a desert, so I think he just used it as a metaphor for driving off a cliff.

Well I still think or more likely guess that Bottom of the Death Valley is basicly the second part of the story of Embryo. Its just a guess, but it kinda matches up.

@@Akinohotarubi Now that you mention it, yeah.. the music video was just for the single version of Embryo right? Back in the day I always thought it was just a more "family friendly" Music TV version of Embryo, a heartbreaking suicide letter from what I interpreted. But thinking about it now, while its till a kind of Suicide Note or "thought" may call it prayer, it actually makes more sense that it was Farewell for the Mother or (revisiting the lyrics of the single version now) a sort of "I am coming to you" kind of message so it kind of gives a whole picture there.

Great translation, thanks. But yikes, didn't know there was this much Engrish in the song. Really devalues whatever proper writing the song has.

It's not like just because you wrote something in a different language, that means it has less value than if you were writing it in your native language. At least in Japanese songs, I noticed that they usually write in English the exact parts they want to be understood by everyone. Like, making a greater emphasis while using English, because it does catch our attention, right? And if we read the lyrics, we instantly understand them. But I do confess that I used to sing it like any other thing but English because of the accent haha. Well, it has its charm! I still can't sing "my sister", I'd rather go for "my shissah" because that's how it sounds and I love it. English isn't my first language as well, by the way.
@radicalstanza3614

@@milena4139 There is an unbelievable amount of complete nonsense broken English in a ton of Japanese songs. Most of it can hardly be considered a deep artistic decision either. They just think it sounds cool. I'm sure they think they know what it means, but something, more often than not, ends up lost in translation. If what someone writes in their non-native language is not up to snuff, they'd be better served not putting it out there for public consumption.
@milena4139

@RadicalStanza Yeah, okay. So I shouldn't have generalized "Japanese songs" as this kind of thing actually happens. That's true. But I think you understood what I meant? The same way you generalize "they just think it's cool", it cannot be applied to every single song and artist, right? That's obviously only my opinion and it's mostly for Dir en Grey songs as that's the actual matter here, but I just think that the English lyrics they used there are not devaluating the song by itself. Of course, when we translate their songs to English, they partially lose some meaning as well. Kaya did her best to help us understand it (thanks Kaya!), but we will never be able to entirely do so because it's just not our native language. However, it makes sense to me that we might want to express something using different languages because it has a different kind of effect, meaning, feeling, even musicality. Like how they used the word "vinushka" for that amazing song you probably know. But thanks for replying and for expressing your opinion! I just couldn't agree with yours because it looked like you were disgusted about the usage of "Engrish", which apparently led you to give less value to the song and its lyrics. I think that's so sad, so I wanted to express mine as well because it's different from yours. It's not a big deal, and I don't think that any of us is correct. As far as I understood, I'm just guessing that it makes sense, and you're guessing that it doesn't, but none of us can speak for the artists nor for the ones who are self-proclaimed. That's all, isn't it? Sorry for the long message, just wanted to make myself understood. I'll gladly reply to any other message you post here. Have a nice day, or night depending on your timezone!
