My grandfather fought for Norway in WW2, he was among the troops in Narvik to win the first battle against Hitler with the French. He died in 2015 at the age of 95. I was only 8 years old. This song always reminds me of him…

You’re gonna LOVE the rest of that album, “Brothers In Arms,” especially “Ride Across the River.” Then take a deep dive into “Love Over Gold,” only 5 songs but every one a masterpiece, especially “Telegraph Road,” “Private Investigations” and (my favorite) “It Never Rains.” Virtuoso guitar/storytelling.

Sadam Husein was a mad man another Hitler, power hungry, killing his own citizens men women and children, no concience, psychopathic that is very very dangerous. He could have been making an atomic bomb, nobody knew for sure, now I wonder if you'd be saying the same if he was and did have and then dropped it on America, perhaps you. Then it would be why didn't the USA stop it. Really you don't have a leg to stand on, Sadam had to be stopped and he was..

I think, what may people miss about this song, it's for about the soldiers of a country. It's about the people that have to fight as they are made to. No politics. Peaceful people, that die and lose those close to them. Good people died, fighting for the Nazis. My uncle (in later years) met a lot of them. Even though he was in A POW camp, for over four years. The poor are made to fight, for the gain of the rich. This is what this song is about. Loss.

step way from what you think. This is, surely, about all those who die both friends or foe as they are all brothers in arms. When we die, who is there for us? We have one world, but we all live in our own little world ... this is why we end up fighting war for the profit of others - political, financial and so on.

For those who don't understand, it sounds strange because of he is using swells, where he turns the volume down during the string pluck, and is only letting you hear it ring out, instead of both the strike, and the ring out. He is moving the volume up and down, so you only hear the later parts. I think he is using a pedal for it, but you can do it with your fingers on most guitars also.

Brothers in arms is a anti war song if anything (why else would Joan Baez cover it), it`s not about patriotism, more about the opposite and the complexities that is war and it`s aftermath, men killing brothers, and seeing their brothers die, not about sides and who is right and wrong, but about humanity
