Yes is true, for a normal playback, elliptical stylus wear less than a conical, but is negligeable if you compare that to playing a record without brushing them before. I agree the Arkiv stylus, I use that stylus for my LP and Elektro, DJ S, Shure M44-7 and M44G for dance music and hiphop, every Ortofon cart (OM and concorde) are the same (except the s-120), so all stylus are interchangeable, samething for the shure 35 and 44 series.

@eppik dsasterpiece was also, probably, talking about the cartridge and stylus you use. You're using a DJ cartridge, with a spherical stylus, which sits atop the grooves and wears down the grooves quicker. You should be able to change the stylus without changing the cartridge, to an Elleptical stylus (which is 'cone shaped' and sits in the entire groove, making your vinyls last much longer). Shouldn't use a DJ stylus if you're listening to the music.

@eppik [cont] Because you're using an Ortofon, you should be able to change the stylus easily and not spend too much. If you're ripping vinyl to your computer, the best (in my opinion) bang for your buck stylus for that job, with Ortofon, would be the Arkiv. Otherwise, if you have enough money to spare, I'd look at something like the Audio Technica AT-440MLa.

if your diamond is spherical, you can use an elyptical ortofon stylus with this mount cartridge no need to change a costly cartridge, it's bullshit to say that an ortofon destroy the groove, it's probaly one of the finest stylus ever made. but for true hifi quality the 2m series from ortofon are the best also audiotechnica made some good cartridge.
