I simply love Dire Straits! Knopfler, a true strings magician. I saw him live in 2000. When it started to sound "I want my MTV", the whole place went down. "¡THIS IS FIRE!". You're right. I told you, Becks: Dire Straits is a one-way ride.

Sting didn't co-write this song. Mark Knopfler had the idea of singing the lyrics "I want my MTV", which was MTV's catchphrase, to the tune of Sting's "Don't stand so close to me" and Sting was offered the songwriting credit purely due to that. While recording the album Mark casually suggested to the band and crew that it would be great if they could get Sting to sing that part of the song only for one of them to turn around and tell him that Sting was vacationing on the island. Sting no doubt made a lot of money from that songwriting credit, almost 'money for nothing' you might say.

Radar Love 1973. Speeding tickets galore. By the late 70's the police started to notice something. Old folk that never even got to 55 mph on the expressway were being pulled over for 70 to 90 mph and the officers noticed the song on the radio. Turned out the beat of the music was subconsciously being equaled by the beat of the tires on the not so old pavement. Old timers were given a warning. Us young un's got all the tickets.

When this first came out, I remember being in a pub in Cornwall. I spent more money playing this over and over again on the Duke box than I spent on beer or food. Then when I ran out of money, some locals started playing it on the Juke box as well. That intro is soooooo good. You have reacted to Dire Straits a few times now. I don’t believe you have done “Private Investigations” yet though. It’s a slower song but really good instrumentally. Don’t forget Mark Knopfler has also had a long solo career since Dire Straits. Plenty of great work there to catch up on.

I could listen to this song, maybe even get some happy feet while doing so, yet staying firmly seated in the chair, and hit replay after replay after replay....I could watch this or the OMV over and over and over...actually dancing around the house(no one is here to see) while semi-attending this chore or that chore...all would be fun, and excellent ways to spend the time...but none are as fun as watching you enjoy the song as much as you do...great reaction, so much so I think I will watch this a few more times.

Thanks for a great reaction to a classic song! Now your next one needs to be to my favorite Dire Straits song, Tunnel of Love. It is based on a true event from when Mark Knopfler was a teenager hanging out at his local amusement park, The Spanish City. He met a girl and they agreed to hangout together that night, not exchange names and then say goodbye for good at the end of the evening. Years later he was still thinking about her and wrote the song. The best live version is from a concert at Wembley in 1985. Amazing musicianship by the whole band, particularly the keyboard player and a great show: kzitem.info/news/bejne/x6t-noB3mJVznpg However; my favorite version is the album cut. You can hear the poignant lyrics and Mark's amazing guitar work better and the solo at the end is, arguably, the greatest in the history rock. I guarantee you will be transported: kzitem.info/news/bejne/mp9tq2h6q6F-g6A (please don't do the official music video). Much thanks, Dave
