I’m glad you’re enjoying your journey with the Dire Straits. You should check out Dire Straits - Private Investigations LIVE (On the Night, 1993) HD

Bob Geldof was desperate to get Dire Straits to headline Live Aid. They were the biggest band in the world at the time and he knew if he got them onboard then other big name acts would follow. There was just one problem; Dire Straits were booked to play a sold out show at Wembley Arena the same night and they didn't feel comfortable with the idea of cancelling and letting their fans down. In the end they agreed to play Live Aid in the afternoon instead. After doing their soundcheck they carried their instruments across the car park from the Arena to Wembley Stadium for their performance, which despite consisting of only two songs was the longest of any act that momentous day. They then went back with their instruments to play their evening gig in Wembley Arena. If Dire Straits hadn't agreed to perform, Live Aid might not have included quite so many famous names. Three years later in 1988 Dire Straits were called upon to headline The Nelson Mandela 70th Birthday Tribute Concert at Wembley Stadium. This was despite the band being on hiatus after a grueling year long world tour. They reformed specially, with Eric Clapton standing in for rhythm guitarist Jack Sonni who was home in New York where his wife had just given birth to twins. With official worldwide viewing figures in excess of 600 million (and believed to be considerably higher as many African countries were allowed to broadcast it unofficially) it was the second most watched concert after Live Aid. Such was its reach it is believed to have helped pile pressure on the South African government to finally release Mandela from prison, which happened less than two years later. Mandela spent 28 years in prison and his release hastened the end of the abhorrent Apartheid regime in his country clearing the way for him to become the country's first black president.

The live aid movement starting with the band aid single by Bob Geldof from Boom town rats ( i don't like mondays) and Midge ure from Ultravox ( Vienna) and forty or so of thier friends and then leading to the joint Wembley Philadelphia concerts was the single most ambitious and positive thing i have witnessed in my liftime - so always worth doing the live aid versions of things. I was at that concert and the crowd and everyone performing was beyond happy and enjoying themselves. It was the best natured crowd i have ever experienced and the atmosphere was electric. If you want to get a taste of the callborative nature of it try reacting to the finale songs . It was an 11 hour concert - plenty to dive into. I definitely think concentrating on one band at a time is a good idea . you'll never get hold of a band just doing one song. I agree that private investigations from the on the night concert should be next - in a way i think it is their most original song and so evocative .Also you should definitely do Brothers in arms - the video version in that case and Romeo and juliet but only a live version because the video released with that was heinous. You do have your work cut out for you with guitarists - you need more led zeppelin but then also Eric Clapton , rory gallagher, Robin Trower , the who , brian may , Mr David Gilmour from Pink Floyd ..... it should make you very happy there is so musch to do .

Dire Straits got this song from a couple of Delivery people that were installing his new kitchen. It's their conversation as the Lead Singer's son was watching MT.V.

My favorite 2 performances from Dire Straits are Brothers In Arms and Private Investigations Live "On The Night" 1992. Mark's playing on that custom Pensa Suhr in BIA is absolutely breathtaking. Every reactor I've seen said it had a big impact on them. Private Investigations gives me the chills Every Time I see it. I really recommend this band Live. They do it so well Live. Love your channel. Cheers from Australia 👍🎸

@user-vw9mn5xy4s. OMG what a load of old nonsense you just made up!😂😅. The truth is, Mark Knopfler. Lead singer/guitarist, arranger, songwriter of all DS songs, was actually in an electrical goods shop and a couple of appliance installers were watching some MTV ads on the TV displays. He heard their conversation which he thought was hilarious, so sneaked up to the counter to ask for a pencil and a bit of paper, then found a place to sit and write down what these men were saying. He sings Money for Nothing in the character of the disgruntled kitchen installers. The lyrics speak for themselves & the rest is history. I❤MK
