This quantity and quality of the knowledge this lesson holds is masterfully done! By far one of best guitar teachers on KZitem! 8 years ago I was a personal student of The Halls of Music and his deep interest and knowledge of Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead's playing style influenced and reminisces with me everyday. Still to this day I refer to his lessons whenever I'm in a musical rut. His philosophy on improvisation is spot on when he states: "there it is again, that little thing that makes me want to groove a little harder". Perfect description with a marvelous lesson Mr. Hall!

I got this version from the Reckoning album. They may have done it in E at some point. This version is for sure the same as the Reckoning album

I used to jam with Jerry at Dana Morgans in Palo Alto when Jerry worked there in 63 or so. This is one of the only people I have heard that really has him down.

Thank you, Mike. That is a kind statement. I definitely learned his solo note for note from the album for this one. I love that solo. It's so articulate and cool!

@@chadlongjr.7416 That is interesting. I bet it's one of most covered tunes from that album. It's so accessible. I have a big project of videos coming next that includes finishing up a version of Birdsong with three in depth videos on how to arrange the tune and improvise with confidence and understanding. Once I finish that, I have to get started on making videos for my beginner series books. I teach a TON of beginners and need the videos to reference for my private studio of students. Perhaps I will make Shady Grove my next study for non-beginner guitarists. It's a great tune. I said all that to say that I will get to your request but have a ton of work that has to at least get started before I can start it. Once I get it up, I will tag you in the post if I can. It takes a great deal of time to do these videos, so the turn around on it will take a while. I really do appreciate your interest in what I am doing. I am trying to make these videos as helpful as I can based upon my experience as a teacher.
