It's difficult to tell because the model is beautiful in bad lighting as well.

Very helpful and, IMO well presented. However, I think the straight on flash photo was much better than the bounced of the "ceiling" one. Maybe you were too close and the light was bouncing back straight down on the model? Might be a personal taste thing, anyone else agree?

@connflix

Marcel A Granier the reason why the bounced one is considered “better” is because the lighting is distributed a bit better and not so dramatic. If you have that kind of lighting it’s going to be a lot easier to edit how you’d like in post/have a lot more detail. It’s pretty easy to lose detail in highlights/shadows when you’re shooting straight on. It might look cool, but you’re really limited.
@jasonbodden8816
4 жыл бұрын
@@connflix You're only limited if your exposure is terrible but I do agree that straight ion sn't the way to go most times (though, as someone said, done right in the right circumstances it can look cool).

@geko9425

You dont really know the definition of softness
@jasonbodden8816
4 жыл бұрын
You might be confusing overexposure with hard light. He exposed the direct flash well so some people may see that as softer light in comparison to the subsequent overexposed shots (people confused brightness with harshness/hardness a lot). But one thing is certain is that the direct flash in the first shot is DEFINITELY not softer than the light in the other shots. Not by a long shot.

I agree with you to an extent. There is a hot spot on her forehead between her brows caused by the flash. It appears to be more visible in the direct bounce photo and less visible in the bounced flash photo when the two are compared side by side. The transition of her overall skin tone to the hotspot between her brows is more suddle in the bounced flash photo as opposed to the direct flash photo. Also the shadow under her neck is softer in the bounced flash photo than the direct flash photo.

It was nice to learn about different bounce and diffuser techniques but I would have hoped that through all of those examples at least one of them would have removed the over the top shiny spot on her forehead. I thought maybe it was her skin tone but when she turned around it was easy to see it was not her but was all flash related.
