Unironically, the old man from Up is probably a good mixture of masculine and feminine traits. He’s moderately successful, he’s stable in his life, he’s opinionated, and on the gruff side but he’s also incredibly passionate with his love for his wife and although he becomes jaded after her death, he is able to open up and create a new family with the kid, the giant bird, and all of his dogs. Not to mention the little boy is smart, driven, and incredibly steadfast while also being really in touch with his emotions.

I’ve been at odds with my dad for a few years now. We love each other, but he’s extremely ideological, and has burned bridges with all of my siblings because of it. I think that hearing the talk about having a strong father figure who is able to pull you aside and show you a gentle side is something that I took for granted when growing up. Damn it’s actually really disappointing that neither of them could explore kratos and Joel more. Bc if you think about if Joel and kratos go through very similar journeys before ending up in there respective games. Both lost their daughters and family. both then take it out on the world and become psychos. But the thing that makes kratos so much of a better father and man in general was his relationship with Faye and the lessons he learned from her. Kratos seemed to bring a lot more “feminine” traits when dealing with Atreus. Kratos is very receptive and actually listens to the council of those around him. And kratos really tries to understand Atreus and eventually gains the courage to let his son find his own path. Joel who never had anyone to help him come back from his psycho days. So when joel becomes a “father” again he develops an animalistic attachment, and need to protect Ellie that leads to him not being brave enough to allow her to make decisions for what’s best for her. he becomes toxically protective due to a fear of losing again I think Joel basically has no feminine traits at all and is a significantly worse man than Kratos because of it.

On the final point about drama being king, drama content will ALWAYS bring more views than a purely informative interview. The point is your viewers don't want to be drowned in drama on your channel, but will still watch it. Those drama videos are also being viewed by non subscribers who just wanna watch drama from any sort of channel. Still do the informative video as that's what some subs wanna watch, but the drama content will always be the higher viewed videos because it's easier to ingest and this is youtube Like what are more people more like to want to read at a book store, a mystery novel or an encyclopedia

Destiny's kitchen example is perfect. I can vouch for that because I was the general manager of a Marco's Pizza for a few years & they had me work from open to close on Fridays & Saturdays (which were like 15 hour days, 9 am till 1 am) & the reason for that was because we'd be slammed the most on those days & without a good manager taking charge of prep & rush hour shit can go downhill fast. & because of that I only had to work like 5 pm to 10 pm on weekdays. I used to get called in all the time if another manager wasn't up to the task. & I used to work harder than anybody else right next to my employees so when I would delegate tasks everyone worked much harder because it wasn't coming from a manager who was sitting on their a**. Destiny should brush up on his male role models there are plenty to choose from that aren't bloodthirsty/raging alcoholics/brooding too hard but most tend to be in TV series and not in films as films dont have the running time to flesh out characters. Most of the best examples tend to be in the sci-fi genre though because there usually men have to be smart not just strong (i.e. are usually fighting overwhelming odds against better tech, physically stronger individuals etc). From recent memory and in no particular order: John Carter, Cpt Picard, Cpt Dylan Hunt/Andromeda, Coach Carter, Great Teacher Onizuka, Kuroko (no basket) if you want more manly versions you can go with Worf, Teal'c, Riddick, Cage (Edge of Tomorrow) or Redeemable aholes: Ant Man, Dr Strange, Constantine. I can probably think of more if I can be bothered. Also I think Destiny missed out on Keanu as a role model in the sense of how he is like in real life not John Wick...Dwayne Johnson, Terry Crews, Denzel Washington, Morgan Freeman, Tom Hanks are all equally talented and genuine people worthy of praise etc. I think we need to expand the pool to non imaginary people too, there are plenty of people in history or various other industries besides entertainment who have led accomplished lives and stayed humble and are arguably better role models because they lead more attainable lives than the fictional ones.

The only thing that destiny isn't getting right about the whole leader thing (idk if fresh and fit talk about it because I don't watch them) is that when people talk about men being leaders it's in the context of a relationship/marriage but he always talks about out in the world. I do agree that most men are followers but in the relationship/marriage/ family, men are generally going to be the head of it/leading it. It takes a different type of man/woman to lead many men/women. In private life, men will typically lead unless he defers to the woman. Also the women being in the kitchen and men being line cooks is just that women would cook while the men were at work, not because they're better at or anything like that. I think people get that confused

Destiny is so dishonest about masculinity and femininity stuff. "Everything positive is masculine, everything negative is feminine, herp derp" 🤪 Literally just projecting his personal hedonistic life style(that is only possible becuase he's ultra successful compared to the average person, not to mention he has an above average level of self confidence/esteem and a below average level of sensitivity to negative feelings) onto men and then taking the most bad faith interpretation of the traditional american woman(chained to the house, hates her kids and never wanted any from the get go, wishes she could be a top1% male earner that can travel around and sleep around willy nilly, has no appreciation for her man, has no friends or hobbies etc.) and squares those against eachother. Zzzzzz. Literally the only thing he gets right is that the average man and woman aren't _really_ that different *on the whole.* But it's beyond clear that the average man and woman have very relevant differences when it comes to what they enjoy, life goals and behaviours and that they're both valid ways to live. And that the vast majority of both can be more than content with not living the kind of life Destiny lives, even when the women lean towards care taking in different forms and the men lean towards working with things in different forms(with a big overlap, obviously, think bellcurves). And every time he gets confronted with this he just says gives dismissive throwaway comment like "I would hate to be with that kind of woman or live like the average man" etc.

So Captain America is a good role model for men, and the first reason she thinks of him is because he's self-sacrificial ? I'm sorry but Jesus taking himself in the rear, woman, do you even hear yourself ? The main thing that you think is positive in a man, is his willingness to sacrifice himself ? That's self-centeredness at its peak. How about : because he is morally straight in his boots ? It's insane that she skips right over the moral frame that he has, to go directly to the part where he's willing to die for others. I initially liked NSE a lot compared to the other Destiny's orbiters of the female persuasion, because she seemed like the most reasonable one by a really long shot… but the more I listen to her, the more this appreciation is dissipating over time. The way she views/observes and interprets the world is really off really often. I'm going to have to start not actually perceiving her as reasonable anymore, she's doing everything in her power to have this qualificative revoked.

27:20 I have to disagree with erudite on this one. I wouldn’t categorize low functioning traits as masculine. The difference between low functioning sociopath and high functioning sociopath isn’t their level of masculinity. If we actually want to stick with gendering traits, I would even go as far to say that the low functioning sociopath or the predominant prison population exhibits higher levels of feminine traits than high functioning sociopaths. Such traits include higher levels of anxiety, lower levels of impulse controls, poor long term planning, etc. So no, the highest levels of “masculinity” isn’t represented in the prison population, unless all we’re attributing to masculinity is physical aggression.

Yes, lets just ignore strong female characters of the 90s like the whole cast of Sailor Moon, Scully of X-Files, Buffy... Not to mention how scary it is that relationships are now apparently based solely on the fact of whether each party can be guaranteed to provide resources now and into the future or risk being dropped for someone more competent. Love just isn't a thing anymore? Guess that guy who's giving her a massage at the end there, if he would dare to brake a leg while she's 9 months pregnant and be unable to work during that time, he'd be replaced ASAP.

I think the mistake with this conversation is assuming men want male role models. It seems to me that men just look for a bunch of principles to follow instead. Traits being labeled "masculine" or "feminine" is only an issue if you think men ought be purely masculine and women purely feminine. This is incorrect. Men are mostly masculine but they need to integrate certain feminine characteristics and aspects of themselves in order to acheive their full potential and maximally healthy psychological state. Same for women. Look up anima/animus integration for more information.

i like the use of the words masculine and feminine because it forces the conversation about the traits not necessarily being about man vs women. it should be separated from gender generally - i think of it as using le and la in French. La voiture is the car, but the car is not female. AND if women structured society, they WOULD be considered leaders. i'm not going to be a leader if you put me on a football team because i don't give a shit about football. if you put me on a panel to revamp the system of modern education, there would be zero chance that anyone would ever catch me daydreaming and waiting for my orders to come down to me.

I know Jordan Peterson is controversial, but I liked his take on why Beauty and the Beast has the best archetypes of the princess movies. In an attempt to not over define either sex, heard someone sum up women as being more immediate emotional well-being driven while men are more oriented towards challenges in the world. My hubs and I both don't fit the gender personality stereotypes of masculine and feminine. The notion of "masculine" and "feminine" traits is reductive and moribund. It's an understandable heuristic since there are traits that typically have clustered around the male and female sexes. These are simply human traits though, apportioned in differing amounts in individuals. We'll see this invented notion of masculine and feminine traits begin to disappear in the coming years. And we'll be all the better for it.
