Julien Christian Lutz, better known by his professional name Director X, is one of hip hop's all-time greatest video directors. Over the past 25 years, he’s been behind the camera for hundreds of music videos for artists like Drake, Sean Paul and Rihanna. More recently, he’s branched out into feature films, including the 2018 remake of Superfly. But beyond his work as a filmmaker, Director X has helped elevate Canadian hip hop into a global phenomenon - and he’s always given back to the communities that nurtured him. That’s a big reason why he finds himself among this year’s inductees for Canada's Walk of Fame. He sat down with Tom Power to talk about it and the path that led him here.
