I was raised in Mexico City and remember when Alejandro was a popular radio host at WFM, 96.9, a hip station that played rock hits (Depeche Mode, etc), in the late 80s/early 90s. He was a storyteller even then and would come up with these whimsical radio plays full of sound effects. A popular one that comes to mind is El Pavo Asesino (The Killer Turkey), aired one holiday season. It was basically a hilarious slasher Christmas story about a pissed off turkey killing people left and right - and it proved so popular that it had sequels every year at Christmas. Stories aside, he was also beloved as an engaging personality, but I would've never imagined he might become one of the world's foremost film directors, especially in largely dramatic fare.

Gina has worked on more stories than I ever will but I humbly disagree with her. The person directing is not the one telling the story, the person who WROTE/CREATED the story is the one telling the story, the director is the person who will EXECUTE that story. Yes, a director is a story teller by nature, but just because you're in charge doesn't mean it's your story to tell unless you wrote the story like some directors do.
